Haven't accepted yet, but plan to. Again, this is my dream career. It is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and it isn't an opportunity I am even considering passing up.

Sorry if you consider someone who's lived in California pointing out things you should think about as being a dick.
Admittedly you have "only been here a few times"...so, what exactly do you think you have to offer in this thread?

We get it, you didn't like LA. I'm okay without any more of your "advice".

Visited a few times. Most of it looks like a third world shite hole.

My compliments to the OP. Most people are lazy and do the New Orleans-Houston-Baton Rouge comparisons but Los Angeles threads are really underrated when it comes to bringing out the hate.
The only advice I have is to give weight to people that either live or have lived there in this thread. Visitors don't count.

Lived for a year north of LA and regularly visited friends in Long Beach. You're right. I have nothing to add and will bow out.

Sounds good. Thx.

I realize that's an impossibly low budget. Which is why I said we will likely have to rent. But I wasn't sure if there were some areas outside of LA that would be worth looking into that might be more affordable (even though traffic would be a nightmare)
The traffic would be such a nightmare that it wouldn't be worth it IMO
I was fortunate to live in and work in the Southbay area so I avoided most of the traffic. The congestion there is miserable.

LA's motto is to get poor and lazy folk like you outta there.

Haha yeah it looks like a much more reasonable $3.10 or so right meow. The $4.30 appears to be a Google reference to a time (April 2014) when crude prices were about to peak. Obviously it's a much different world today. Especially with Musk doing work over there with his Teslas and hyperloop and boring company and shite.

The only reason I left LA was because of financial reasons. I lived comfortably there fresh out of college on 65k per year in 2014. In the career I chose right out of school, it would have been impossible for me to ever retire out there. It's a great city and I would never pass up the opportunity to live out there if I were you. I just wouldn't plan on making a life or career out there unless you have the opportunity to be making 200k plus eventually.

Ahhh, I agree. You should have been making 200k/yr within 5 years of college graduation. I mean, c'mon.

It worked. I moved out by San Luis Obispo then back to Colorado.

I'd ask if you regret your decision, but I already know the answer.

Our budget for a home would be 300-400k
If you can even find a place in LA at that budget, believe me, it will be in a place you REALLY don’t want to be.

Not what I said or what I meant. I figured the word eventually would give that away. However, I'd rater retire at 60 in a Houston suburb than 75 in Santa Monica
