Don't forget your tax burden is about to go up significantly. I was honestly surprised how big of a difference it made and I was coming from Colorado to California.

Los Angeles is basically a giant Baton Rouge with Baton Rouge traffic that's lucky enough to have good weather and a few beaches and mountains next to it to at least make it not so miserable to live there.
This is accurate. Los Angeles is easily the worst major city I've ever visited. It's like it took the worst attributes of Houston, San Francisco, Miami, and New York City and none of the positives.

A good friend is the in house lender for Berkshire Hathaway RE in BH. If you really want to buy, he could help you.
I know he rents a 2/2,1100 sq ft place for about $2200/month in West Hollywood.

Southern California is probably the best place on the planet for a human to live.
Sorry but LA ruins whatever good attributes that part of California might have.

Other than the personalities you have to deal with and the horrible homeless population, it's great. Anyone that thinks Houston is even comparable is a retard. It's the third best major metro area behind San Diego and NYC

All the trash stays away from the nice parts of LA. I saw about 8 minorities when I visited last year.

He must want to share a place, cause he certainly wouldn't have to.

I was more referring to the spread out nature and traffic of Houston. They could not be more different culturally.

Yep, LA sucks. If you just skip from San Diego to Oceanside, SoCal would be ok.

San Diego may be the nicest overall city I've ever visited. It is baffling just what polar opposites San Diego and L.A. can be.

And you said Houston is a better city, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Try Santa monica or Venice Beach.

They both suck just for different reasons.

Buy an RV and find a place to park it near your work. On your time off, drive it to awesome outdoor spots that Cali has to offer.

a one bedroom in my area is $750,000 to buy
Its absurd. Good luck finding a cheap place. You may have to live down south near Long Beach or Torrance and commute every day. Or Rent.

Our budget for a home would be 300-400k
That doesn't even get you a good condo in that area.

We could probably do $1800-2200/month
You can get an apartment for that
