How is the recovery? Anything I should prepare myself for? Doc told me that he would not have to put any packing up my nose. Is that normal? What will prevent bleeding? Any advice would be appreciated

Depends on on what he does exactly. Septoplasty itself only takes about 45 mins to do. Recovery on this is pretty good 5 days or so. Some people have a touger time if the surgeons has to either perform nasal osteotomies (break your nose) or if they have to work on a lot of bony spurs.

We put splints in all ours. Take them out about 5 days later. You'll have some minor bleeding for a day or two but should really stop after that. We give afrin to help with that. Otherwise do all the nasal saline sprays and or rinses you were told to do. It really helps.

Sister had it done just yesterday. Out of work for two weeks, no driving for one week.

Pulling put the gauze and packing sucked and getting your stitched out in your nose was worse. On pain scale I'll give it 9

Agreed. It sucked. Mine was like a shoe string. It kept coming out I had no clue how much was in there. It was awful pain. Be glad you don't have packing.

Good luck

I had mine done a couple of weeks back and was out for 5-6 days. A blood clot formed on my septum and caused so much swelling that I actually had to have emergency surgery 6 days after the original.

Second surgery did me in, but I'm told this is very rare. Total recovery for the two took about 2.5 weeks.

Twice. First was a complete overhaul. I was having cluster headaches due to polyps pushing on a nerve. I had the polyps removed, nose broken, and septum realigned. The worst part was having to breathe out of my mouth for about 10 days (tongue and throat would get dry). Cutting the septum severed a nerve, which left me with no feeling in my top lip and top front teeth for about a month. The second surgery was a clean-up and a deep removal of a granuloma. The recovery was much easier. There will be a lot of blood, which is one of the most nauseating things if swallowed. Ask the anesthesiologist for Zofran in your cocktail to eliminate the nausea caused by the anesthesia and blood.

It hurt a lot more than breaking my nose did (that's why I had to have the surgery) if that tells you anything. But the really bad pain only lasted for a couple days and I had painkillers to take the edge off. It was nowhere near unbearable though. But definitely worse than when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Getting the packing out was uncomfortable but it didn't hurt that much. It did feel like they were pulling a mouse out of my nose, however. That guy had to really pull hard

Prepare for a frick ton of pain.

This, but I'm glad I did it. Broke my nose twice as a youth without getting it reset. Haven't had a single sinus infection since and I would get one a month before. Recovery was painful and miserable for about a week but in the end it was well worth it.

I had the surgery back in 1999. I was living with a sinus infection, a miserable existence. Before surgery, the ENT could not see the back of my throat when looking up my nose. I had the procedure on a Thursday, he removed the bandages inside my nose the next day. I was at work Monday. I had 2 guitar pick-like splits removed 6 weeks later.
Once a week following the surgery the doc would deaden my inner nostrils and vacuum out the dried blood and gunk. When those splits were removed, I could breathe clear for the first time in years.

The pain level was minimal. He gave me Valium, but I guess I got lucky with the surgery aftermath.

My latest CT scan shows a polyp in one of my frontal sinuses, and it appears I may be going in for another procedure.

Had it done.

My Dr told me he wouldn't have to pack my nose either, but he said something happened during the surgery and my nose kept bleeding so he packed the damn thing anyway.

The pain wasn't that bad. Don't think I hardly took any pain meds. It was just breathing through your mouth was a hassle.

When the Dr. Unpacked my nose, and he pulled out what looked to be a 40 ft rope of gauze out of my nose, I felt like climbing a wall. That shite hurt.

had my nose repaired after it was broken a long time ago. was a fairly quick in and out procedure. there was pain but it wasn't unbearable. just take the pain meds BEFORE you start to feel pain. once it starts the meds won't kick in fast enough.

you will look like you got your arse whipped for a while. swollen nose, black eyes and such.

nose will be super sensitive for a long time.My wife helped a lot with cleaning it out and changing the packing.

just gotta be really careful about bumping into things with it. tapped mine on a counter once and made me see stars. had a basketball bounce up and hit the tip of my nose and i wanted to die.

Yes as part of a broken nose. Recovery was fine... I was high on the drugs they gave me after the surgery. My family still laughs about the shite I said post surgery.

My nose was messed up before I snorted anything up it. Back in high school the ent told me it would take an act of God to fix my nose. I have to admit. I am a mouth breather.

shite sucked and I didn't find it was worth it, didn't help at all. No instead of packaging they use a dissolvable glue.

Usually, I'd would have thought you'd get a bunch of "No big deal. just stick to the aftercare instructions", but after reading this thread, I'm damn glad I never needed this surgery. Sounds like you're in for a couple weeks of shitiness.

The doctor took one look up my nose and said, "Holy shite, why don't you just smoke it or slam it?" I guess he wasn't too impressed with my septum.
