Sunday night I went to eat at Wentzells and I ate the same thing I always eat. A broiled jo platter.

Fish, scallops, shrimp and oysters.

About 2 am I wake up itching from head to toe. Sometimes my fingers will swell up when I eat oysters but this was way beyond that.

It looked like I fell in a huge fire ant bed, I had huge welts from head to toe and it was absolut misery. The welts went away in about 5-6 hours but I felt like shite the entire day on Monday.

Anyone ever experience anything like this?

Bad seafood or just an allergy I've developed?

This was my arm when it started.

I had some bad calamari once. No rash, just nausea and sweats all night.

That’s some serious welps. You’re lucky your tongue and throat didn’t swell. Might want to invest in an epipen and avoid seafood.

Allergy.

Gotta give up either seafood or "the ghost". If seafood is your life then it's a tough choice.

At least your welts aren't as bad as my laundry detergent perfume/scent ones. Mine are as big around as the hole when you make the OK sign touching forefinger to thumb and about 1/4" tall.

Dying of allergic reaction to seafood has less stigma than laundry detergent too. At least "he died doing what he loved" is way better than "he's dead but check out how good his t-shirt smells!"

I’ve had an occasional reaction to a certain fish, all of the times except once it’s been labeled mahi-mahi. I’ll break out and feel nauseated. I’m hoping to catch a mahi one day and test it out.
The only time it wasn’t mahi, it was labeled speckled trout, woke up in the middle of the night with hives and nauseated stomach. To make matters worse was at a friends camp, I get in my truck drive all the way to Houma and no open drugstores. Ended up grabbing off brand Benadryl at the bait shop at that end up doing the trick. I should have gone back to the restaurant and asked what they were really serving. I eat tons of trout that I catch and never had issue.
I broke out with shrimp once and now can tell when I need to stop to avoid serious issue.

It’s not so much the species as it is the time between catch and consume . Longer time means higher histamine levels in seafood product, the higher the level, the worse the reaction. This is why you can eat shrimp and not have any reaction then the next time you have a problem. The fresher the meal the less likely you’ll have a reaction. Good luck.

I once ordered fried catfish in Cleveland. One of the worst decisions of my life.

One time in Vegas I had a real craving for red snapper but later I ended up puking half the night. Might have been the acid or mescaline though.

My arms look like that when I get into a weed or plant that I'm allergic to.
