You'll probably hedge, but: what is the nicest/fanciest/etc restaurant you've attempted to wear that outfit to?

Just googled birddogs. Apparently the first shorts with “built in underwear”. Never knew I owned those. I call them a swimsuit.

Take a trip just wearing a thong and shoes, she'll never complain again.

Overpriced Mexican joint where a polo shirt is perfectly fine because your just going to spill the floater shot out of your margarita anyway.

Short-sleeve button-downs can be a difficult look to pull off, you don't want to look like Dwight Schrute or a car salesman. If you are going somewhere that requires the shirt to be tucked in then a long-sleeve button-down with cuffed sleeves is more appropriate and prevents looking like a dork. SSBDs look fine when untucked but avoid poplin most of the time in favor of an Oxford cloth or similar.

In my book dressing to impress your wife is never a bad call.

Ah...

OP, your wife just doesn't find you to be attractive anymore. Sorry. Maybe start exercising a bit?

Problem #1. I'm sure you and I are not in the same field, but I wear good shorts, my Sunday knife in my pocket, and a Magellan shirt.

this might be the gayest sentence ever typed (obligatory not that there’s anything wrong with that)

Nah, it's just a technically correct, specific way of saying "don't try to dress up your short sleeved button down. It's inherently casual. You'll look like a douche if you try to wear it in a nice fabric. You might be ok if it's made of a rougher, more casual fabric."

If they're fat.

If they're fit women don't really give a shite.

I would just say wear a polo or a long sleeved dress shirt and roll up the sleeves.

Dude

ETA: Ok, I just realized what you wrote. I thought you meant that if the woman's fit, she doesn't care. Now I realize you meant if the man is fit. I'll rate that as a "mostly true".

I agree. I'm utterly opposed to the short sleeved button down. It screams "Office Space" to me. Go formal, or go casual. And if you want to shoot the gap, go formal and roll up the sleeves. The SSBD is just an abomination.
