Check refrigerator and cabinets for expired food. Not just expired a week ago, but expired months even years ago.

I've got that now.

My mom had to make the house look nice for when the cleaning lady came over.

My dad was always kept clean house(divorced from mom since I was 2). Anyway about 10 years ago on a visit I noticed sink full of days old dishes and nasty trash can and old stuff in fridge. Didn’t understand it at the time. Later figured out he was several years into pill addiction.

My mom's house is pretty cluttered but clean. She's certainly a mini hoarder.

My dad is kind of a slob but he's a single guy and doesn't gaf. He used to have a maid, not sure why he stopped.

Cancel. We clean things ourselves in this house. If you think I’m going to allow a sex predator to wander around my house and touch my underwear you got another thing coming.

My grandfather is sort of that way. He’s not living in filth, but he just can’t keep his house clean like it needs to be. He has the funds to pay for someone to come clean it, but he won’t do it no matter how much my Dad suggests it to him. He also goes to our community’s senior citizens everyday, which is great, but he will literally take any junk that someone there is trying to give away so he ends up with collections of junk that he doesn’t need cluttering his house.

The parents are the same as they have always been, but it is blatantly obvious the maid is starting to slip.

My mom was very tidy. In my youth I was some what of a neat freak. 5 kids later, as long as it doesn’t stink, draw flies, or contain lethal toxins, it’s fine. Folks just get tired of picking shite up all the time.

This happened to my grandparents. As they got older, they just didn’t have the energy to clean and declutter like they used to. After they both passed, my sister and I helped clean out their house and holy shite……They had magazines from the 70s stuffed in drawers. We cleaned out their house in late 2020.

My parents are both 79. They are fairly clean but not able to do the heavy duty cleaning like scrubbing floors and showers. I do the grocery shopping, laundry, and most of the cleaning.

As I've aged, I've come to the realization that expiration dates are Bull Sh_t.

Just left my fathers-in-law’s house. It’s awful. Told my wife we’ve got to get him out of there. He’s in his 80’s and just lost his wife.

The older you get the more stuff you acquire. Unless you purge periodically you will run out of storage places and so clutter is inevitable.

Maybe they are hanging onto more possessions that mean things to them. Thus more clutter.

Nope. Dad 69, though he doesn’t clean or move really.

Mom is 67 and may be cleaner than I remember growing up, which is almost impossible.

Bought them a new home theatre system and was setting it up yesterday. That was the cue for mother to decide to dust any and everything that was getting moved/installed.

If it bothers you, grab a mop and a broom and go to work. Or better yet you pay for a cleaning service to get her done.
