There's also a law that restricts the price a gallon of milk can be sold for. Fresh Market had to quit putting it on sale.

3 yrs? We'll see an upward trend in the 3rd quarter. $50 will be met by the end of 16 to mid 2017. This oil crisis is much bigger than all of us. If it's takes 3 yrs I'll bet the house that we'll watch a Third World War unfold.

Disagree. Most of the office workers in the upstream world are not EXTREMELY specialized but they are part of an industry whose skills don't easily transfer. I have a bachelors and masters in my field (no truck nutz) and most would not consider me specialized within the industry but yet if I get laid off I would basically be starting back at square one in any other industry. There are many more people like me in upstream that are at serious risk of being out of a job. Thankfully i've saved up enough to survive for a while in case that happens.

Stout, you disagree? Research the cost of refining and report back. Country's will fall and all of big oil will shut down the pipelines. With descent oil profits comes new developments and exploration. All of which is coming to a halt already.

I will take a shot at it.
Because $50 oil means we won the price war, $50 dollar oil means shale survives at the expense of OPEC's market share.
The price will remain sub $30 for the amount of time it takes to kill off several million BPD of production and that is going to take a while. Simply forcing companies to close a valve (so to speak) that can be reopened rather quickly is not the goal of the stronger party in this dustup.

While WW3 is not that likely a scenario there will be multiple governments go down in flames and many regonal conflicts for sure.
The one big boy that is going to bleed the worst is Russia, they bear (pun intended) watching. If Putin decides to go the conflict/nationalism route to take the pressure of himself things could get a bit dicey.

Because forecasting global supply and demand perfectly is near impossible. Predicting a slow down in China, Iran sanctions lifted, opec not scaling back production, and mediocre to poor economic growth worldwide would have been damn near prescient 3 years ago.
Predictions out into 2017-2020 fall into that same category, so basically don't take anyone's word for it when oil prices will recover.

Venezuela is going down but that was likely going to happen even with $100 oil, the financial mess of the Chavenistas is a thread unto itself. They however will not even be noticed by most, sad when you consider the advantages that shithole has.

The problem is that there is no blue collar work in the USA where the workers brag so much about their income. They've created the backlash. People felt this way about UAW folks in the 70's
