re: Anyone else think Toyota owners inflate their reliability?

Best vehicle I've ever owned was a full sized GM truck with a 5.3L V8. 200,000 miles with nothing but oil changes, tires, brake pads, and light bulbs. It towed the trailer very well and it was a comfortable vehicle for long trips. Unfortunately it didn't have a full back seat and I sold it because I needed something with more space back there - I regret selling it.
My 2021 4Runner TRD may eventually beat that GM truck in terms of longevity. I did have to glue the face plate on the 4x4 knob back down and I had to adjust the parking brake wire. The locking rear diff sometimes is a bit touchy if you don't use it frequently. But otherwise the truck is flawless and it's excellent off road (better in that respect than the Silverado). It's only been to the dealer for maintenance items.
I don't trust the new turbocharged Tundras, 4Runners, and Tacomas to beat either one of those vehicles although I do like the new Tundras quite a bit. Toyota's reliability and reputation have gone downhill lately. I won't buy another until their powertrains prove themselves. If I needed another vehicle, I'd consider a used Tundra or 4Runner over the new turbocharged ones. And even when they do figure them out....I'd have to drive past a very good, reputable GM dealer in order to get to the Toyota dealer. So GM is probably going to be the preference unless they screw something up or the dealer decides not to be competitive.

They don't have as much technology in them, which helps.
Yep, this is huge, along with most of their power & drivetrains which are archaic and get horrible gas mileage.
It's not for everyone.

I’ll vouch for Toyota. Lexus GX460 is the best vehicle I’ve ever driven. It’s just what I like. Solid.

I have had three yotas. Two of them pretty reliable but then again, the drive train was 1990s technology. My 2018 Tacoma TuRD was a piece of poo. First time I filled up, the gas tank came apart and dumped 10 gallons of petrol all over the place. How embarrassing. My VWs and RAM have been very reliable.

Nope, I have owned 7 new vehicles in my life. 4 were Toyotas. The Toyotas were much better and more reliable than the others, and it wasn't close. That is why I always come back and am currently driving a Tundra.

Most Toyota owners I know are pretty reliable. The ones with the older Camrys, not so much.

Absolutely not, but anything newer than 2015 is a slight drop off in quality.

My dad has a 1996 Tacoma and he just had to put an alternator in it ,but other than that no major repairs. My mom just got rid of her 06 Camry that was running fine. My aunt has a still has a 99 Corolla as her daily runner and never had any major problem. They are pretty dam reliable cars from the people I know who own them.

For my family...here are our daily drivers (Toyota and Honda related):
2002 Civic Si - 195,000 miles and no major repairs (timing belt at 160,000)
2003 Lexus LX470 - 237,000 miles and no major repairs (timing belt at 180,000)
2004 4Runner Sport (4.7) - 242,000 miles and no major repairs (timing belt at 225,000, X-REAS suspension replaced about 10,000 miles ago)
2007 Ridgeline - 190,000 miles and no major repairs (except for when my son has wrecked it)
2012 Prius - 202,000 miles and no major repairs
2015 Odyssey - 185,000 miles and no major repairs
By no major repairs, it means that only scheduled service and related items have been replaced along with regular wear and tear items (brake pads & rotors, shocks/struts, a couple of tie-rod ends and 2 CV joints).

No, I have had 5 of them and were by far the best reliability vehicles I have owned. Tank? No, Reliable does not mean tank.

Soyota drivers have to try to make their shame at driving a woman’s vehicle better somehow

Wait, even reliable vehicles require maintenance to keep going? Sounds like bullshite.

Toyota is the most reliable brand there is.
I have a 2011 Camry with 300k miles on it.
All I've had to do is routine oil changes, replace batteries, service the brakes, and replace air filters. Routine shite.
Never anything serious. I replaced the headlights because the old ones got yellow and fuzzy. All repairs to my Camry have been cosmetic, nothing mechanical.
My 2019 Highlander had 150k on it when my wife wrecked it. Never had any issues. The safety features of that Highlander most definitely saved her life.

I had a 1991 Toyota Corolla that we passed on to my cousin, that car got 400,000 miles with no major work ever having to be done. None.
