I’ve always looked at it as there are a lot of veterans way worse off than me that need that money, but you’re right. The government will just waste it somewhere else.

Maybe it would pay the electric bill every month

My brother swears it is a slam dunk 10-15% from the VA. I have it bad as well but since I'm retired never looked into the disability thing. Thankful I'm as healthy as I am.

I have it, but it is unbearable when I eat or drink anything with an artificial sweetener in it. Try avoiding them and see if that helps (all of them). Sweet and low will make it so loud I can't sleep, very, very bad. I used to take a regular aspirin daily (instead of a baby aspirin) and learned later that aspirin can cause it. And is irreversible since aspirin damages the nerves in the inner ear.

Anyways, experiment with the artificial sweetener, you may learn quickly that it affects you.

i did for years. i read somewhere that a common cause is teeth grinding while you sleep. i got a guard (not one from store, a personalized one from your dentist). couple of months wearing it while i slept, tinnitus is pretty much gone. I would suggest you try it. Ive read that it works for alot of people but not everyone, and the guards can get expensive. I think mine was $400. Id pay double that for the results i got.
It’s crazy how interrelated ear and jaw problems can be. I thought I had chronic ear infections, but after I got braces and fixed my jaw problem, my ear problems went away. Turned out that the jaw issue was causing the ear pain.

ETA: in hindsight, it’s pretty obvious due to their proximity to one another, but at the time, I was convinced I had a bum Eustachian tube causing the ear issues

As expected lots of comments but no real solutions...rats ...

As op have said...
Have had it over 20 years....
Stress ,High caffeine intake, binge drinking before bed enhance it...
I can ignore it unless it for some reason is brought up ...like in a thread...now I am sitting here aware of it as my ears ring....:(

Mine is constant and varies in volume for no apparent reason. It's probably from a combination of old age and listening to loud music for years.
My audiologist said there is no real cure and prescribed hearing aids. $3,000!

It's hard to explain to people exactly what you are hearing..I just send them this and tell them to go to 8,500 hz.

sound test

I'll just live with it until someone can come up with a cure or at least lessen the symptoms.

Yep...this! It sounds like you're standing in the middle of the woods at night. It does get worse when you think about it..otherwise it is somewhat tolerable.

Thecoz:

I recently read an article in Dr. Keith Roach's newspaper column 'To Your Good Health' (4/20/21) in which Sertraline (Zoloft) is claimed to be effective for tinnitus treatment. A reader claims it cured his tinnitus 20 yrs ago. Also, a well done study (according to Dr. Roach) showed sertraline to be effective for tinnitus treatment.

It's a generic and I might give it a try.
