I know what you mean. If I am in a group of people I have no problem speaking, words can just flow for me... But when it comes to public speaking in front of a crowd.. To a certain degree you have to figure out what you are going to say.. So I try to remember things and if I get away from the script, its like my mind draws a blank.. And I can't find the words I am looking for and then it makes me more nervous..

I take Topamax for migraine prevention also - and have for about 13 years - and I have the same problem. Yes, it has gotten worse over time. I've considered stopping Topamax but the thought of living with the frequency of migraines as I did before always changes my mind!

It happens to me occasionally. Usually when I'm thinking too far ahead or if I'm distracted.

I experience something similar to this, and I'm in my late 20's. As others have suggested, I think reading more would help out. I'm not cutting out drinking anytime soon.

When it really acts up you should call me, so I can laugh at you.

I've experienced it myself. I find that if I go a while without an intelligent in person discussion I start to experience a hard time drawing on words. Go to toastmasters or some other sort of discourse group.

I keep a journal which also helps with recall and generally keeping my brain engaged. Posting on tigerdroppings helps as well.

I recently started topamax for prevention as well and I have noticed this happening to me more as well. Never would've put the two together. I'm going to bring this up to my Dr next week. I've never had this problem and it's embarrassing when it happens. I even find myself unable to get certain words out at times too.

I've noticed it happening to me more and more day by day.
But like some others, my alcohol consumption has gone through the roof since getting back stateside and I attribute it to that over the last 4 years.
I'm sure if I ever quit I would regain that cognitive sharpness I had..but I don't like feeling feelings a/t/m.

I can't remember not-so-mundane/significant words too. Mine is caused b age + a rough life in my early years. Too many concussions = black spots on brain.

Just curious to hear any other experiences and what other doctors may have said/done about it. As of now it is simply a nuisance. I just worry it will become more than that one day. Full disclosure - head MRI was normal.

Any history of depression? (This is a serious question)

It happens occasionally when I'm stress/have a lot on my plate. I think age does somewhat play a factor. From what I've read, Topamax could definitely be the culprit in your case.

I take no drugs, and word recall never was an issue until I got older. Now I find myself sometimes grasping for a word I just had in mind. (What's that thing called that ...?)

My grandma used to rattle off the first syllable of each grandchild's name before she got around to the one she was trying to call. (Bob, Will, Su, Bet, Mi, John). I did the same thing today. Started the names of two coworkers before I got to the right one. Oh, shite.

I have the same problem, but I chalk it up to years of alcohol abuse.
