No worries. Unlike yourself, I dont consider crossing the street as a high risk thrill
I feel sorry for people who's height of experience is just another restaurant.

True, but thats not all they're supplying to these high end places.
Restaurants are very dishonest.

What brings you joy? Moving to Alaska to escape your demons but still come back to tell everyone that you moved to Alaska bc Louisiana sucks?

How do you know so much about the restaurant industry?

What a weird post. Who is saying the height of experience is eating a restaurants?

depends on the level..
a nice steak house for sure... Wine and a good steak with superb service is worth the money and a great occasional splurge.
I will never understand the appeal of michelin star type dining. Spending hundreds or more for a ton of tiny bites over hours seems just exhausting to me.

Examples? We have laws in Louisiana to hold restaurants accountable and protect the consumer

So you work for a franchisee that owns several fast food restaurants.....got it

If it’s the type of place that gives you a large dish where the food takes up 1/8 of the space and there is ample garnish and a sauce drizzled in some dumb design - hard pass.
I'll preface my comment by saying I've also grown weary of fine dining the older I've become. I like bang for the buck.
That said, fine dining isn't always about getting full, it's about being served food unlike anything you've ever had before. Be it playing with textures, flavors, temperatures, sight, or maybe all of the above, it's intended to give you an experience. You're paying to have several of these novel experiences in a single evening at a single table.
A lot of it you wouldn't even want much bigger portions. Like I went to a Michelin starred place in Chicago which had a dish based around frozen, shaved foie gras...it was INCREDIBLY delicious but if they came out with a big ole plate of that, I wouldn't eat half of it...far too intense and rich to eat in large amounts.
Wife and I don't mind going to enjoy an expensive tasting menu with wine pairings, but like once every 6mos to a year is a plenty for us these days.

here's not much of a gap in a high-end steak house vs a mid-tier steakhouse, though.
Spent $100 on a dry-aged steak last night that was not any better than a mid-tier steakhouse steak that costs $50. Even my wife said the same about her meal.
I just mention steakhouse because most of the fine dining around here is are steakhouses and that's what I like to get.
Usually on tripes we do different fine dining than steaks. Plenty of incredible seafood fine dining and probably my favorite is Asian.
Was in Washington last week and the Asian food was incredible. Nashville probably has my favorite food scene. I don't go there specifically for the food but we always find a new killer place every time we go.

You are paying extra for the atmosphere, usually, which is what the OP was pointing out.
Atmosphere is a plus, but I go for the top tier food more than anything. I've had expensive food that wasn't great, but I don't go back. I like place with a unique menu that come up with some good creations. Also a knowledgeable staff that can tell you what wine pairs good with you r meal. And I'm big on drinks so a big wine selection or bourbon section is key too. Not something you usually get from a mid tier $40 steak place.

FWIW I have eaten at many steakhouses all over and my favorite is Steak & Whisky in Hermosa Beach. Some of the freshest beef I have had was at 1900 Steakhouse in Torreón, MX.
Nice.

Corporation. We had ships, hotels, restaurants among other venues.
No franchising involved. Its still a major corporation.

You may as well be speaking Greek in this thread. To a lot of these guys, anywhere that isn't giving you a basket of rolls and serving all you can eat shrimp is a ripoff
I'm not saying it's something to do every weekend, but experiencing a high end restaurant is an event. The food is only part of it. The wife and I are planning a date night at Saint-Germain in New Orleans soon:

I worked, as in past, for a cruise consortium managing regional properties and as customer service trainer/manager. They had 7 hotels in Alaska/Canada and operations worldwide.
Got to travel the world and it was a wonderful job, til they sold off the local properties and I went elsewhere.

I really like fine dinning. But I'll take good food at a dive bar over it almost every day of the week
