Took an intro motorcycle class last year and learned a lot including to give motorcycles their distance on the road when in a car. Agreed with the posts that most distracted drivers/on their phones are a bigger liability. I'm more annoyed by the cyclists not moving over when a line of cars is behind them and then running stop signs.

Chopper riders seem ok on the road. Crotch rocket riders are pretty unlikable.

Cultured society allows lane filtering and knows the benefits of it. It's backwards US states that made it illegal. Cali at least got with the program and lane filtering is legal there. There are a few others that allow it in stopped/slowed traffic as well.

I think it’s a bit ironic that motorcyclists are both A) constantly preaching to watch out for motorcycles and B) adamant about how they should be allowed to drive between lanes, putting them in a position where drivers would never expect to find another vehicle.

Yes, I know - there were a couple of studies in California that suggested lane splitting/filtering reduced the risk of injury to motorcyclists. Unfortunately, this justification disregards the numerous studies which have found that lane splitting/filtering was more likely to result in injury.

I suspect that if motorcyclists were truly honest with themselves, they would admit that they want lane splitting to be legal because it lets them bypass traffic - not because of safety.

In fact, I’d argue that motorcyclists in general tend to value convenience and “freedom” on the roads over safety. Look at the AMA’s opposition to helmet laws. Look at clothing: it’s pretty well-documented that white helmets and reflective clothing reduce collision risk considerably for motorcyclists. What percentage choose to wear them?

I don’t hate bikers. I have a lot of friends that ride regularly. But I think bikers as a group love to squawk about safety when it’s someone else who is being inconvenienced, while often failing to do the safe thing when they are the ones who would be inconvenienced.

I will say this - there are plenty of bikers out there who are courteous, safe drivers. But all of the courteous, safe bikers I know were stupid, unsafe bikers at some point in their lives. They just got old and aged out of it.

I love motorcyclists. Especially when they rev up their engines.

I subscribe to more European style riding. I don’t support no gear or helmet. I wear full gear every ride. Jacket, pants, helmet, boots, and gloves. All of which are rated for riding. My helmets and jackets are brightly colored and have reflective elements to them.

I believe the motorcycle license should be a tiered system like Europe has, you shouldn’t be able to get a liter sports bike on a public highways without proper training. I also believe our car training is utter garbage and should be more like Europe to get a license as well.

They have filtering and it is not viewed like it is in the States and it is seen as a benefit for riding a motorcycle.

You sound like a gun banning lib... Want to ban Harleys from old fat guys because of what young kids do on crotch rockets.

When I ride... It's not to a bar or through a city, so you won't even have to worry about seeing my arse...

Two kinds of people ride motorcycles:

People that HAVE BEEN to the hospital and people that ARE GOING to the hospital. They have law firms that specialize in motorcycle injury for frick’s sake.

You mean cyclists
And why?!
They stay on the side of the road usually not on busy roads and they give signals.
All a driver has to do is know the signals slow down and pass. Not that horrible.
Most people hate seeing cyclists or runners on the road cuz it reminds themselves of how lazy and out of shape they are. It’s true
Downvote if you’re fat!!

So apparently cutting your grass and blowing the trimmings out in the road is harmful to bikers. I bought my grandparents place from the estate after they passed 20 years ago. Been cutting my grass in my own yard literally the way my grandfather taught me when he first started mowing it in the damn 1930’s (I’m guessing he had a mule tied up until they invented mowers). I was their yard boy during the 80’s so I’ve literally mowed my grass in my yard every Saturday or so the past 35+ years. Hell I’m pretty sure the street wasn’t even a dedicated road till like the 50’s. So my house predates the damn road. So last Summer I cut it like I always do, and it all shot out in the street so the hot asphalt literally cooks the trimmings and dries up after a couple hours.

I’m not even done mowing, stop drink a bottle of water and there up on the Facebook is a woman, let’s call her Karen, who lives down the road, warning bikers of the grass out in the street. Commenters adding that it’s a crime, etc., because apparently it causes motorcycles to wreck. Now the last thing I want to do is fricking cause someone to have a wreck, but I’m over 50 years of life I’ve never heard anything about this. But I also don’t hang out with biker folks.

Nothing against em just not my thing. I’m more of a grass mowing enthusiast I suppose.

The comments start talking about the potential illegality of it, etc., and after a quick google search, lo and behold, these whining little bitches could be correct? Well I damn sure don’t want to cause harm to anyone nor do I want to be explaining myself to anyone including some kid with a badge and gun. So here I am faced with this dilemma - break the law or allow all these grass trimmings to trash up my yard and disrespect my ancestors and, in my opinion, interrupt prescription on a 90 plus year old predial servitude of mowing my shavings into the road. (If that even is a thing, no time to ask my lawyer friend) So I did all I knew I could possibly do at the moment, I go get my leaf blower and blow all that shite down to the last blade across the road into my neighbors yard. Problem solved.

Also, I’m not going to comment on hardcore mudchecking 1 percenter, calling everyone Brother this or that folks. They seem scary. But when I’m in a jam, (and I hope I never am) I’ll just throw some grass clippings on the ground by them. They’ll run tell Karen.
