The main thing i dont like is the blind spot light on the mirrors vs blind spot mirrors. That shite sucks if you're not used to it. And what happens when there's an error?

Whenever it rains out the passenger side blind spot detector on my Equinox stays on. It doesn't cause issues. But its annoying to my OCD seeing the orange light on

But the safety tech? I'm all about it. As someone who will have teen drivers before long I'm reconsidering the conventional wisdom that you get them an old beater because "they're gonna wreck it."

I will agree here. The Silverado is way more unsafe than the 2018 equinox is with curtain airbags and other modern safety features. The Silverado just has 2 airbags i think and it doesn't drive as easy as the new one. The steering wheel is a little loose on it.

It's 21 years old and is in a state that salts the frick out of the roads I the winter. It's gonna rust. My rockers are pretty much gone, cab corners are rusting pretty bad too as are the wheel wells on the box.

I mean it seems just like something else you get used to.

And couldn't you just also stick blind spot mirrors on your mirrors and have them in addition to your warning light?

You should still be checking your blind spot. The warning sensors are just another layer of safety.

It's like the backup camera. It doesn't completely cancel out checking your mirrors

I want to be the operator and drive the car. I don’t need auto pilot, i enjoy driving. I don’t want the car to fight me changing lanes without a blinker. I don’t need the parking brake to engage when on the slight incline of my driveway. The car doesn’t need to shut down at red lights. I don’t want to be dinged to death with the car telling me to put my seatbelt on. I want to be able to reverse a few feet with my driver door not fully shut. Not a fan of the electronics designed to control the car over my actions. And more expensive shite to break. Rant over.

You'd think someone would invent some sort of coating to solve that issue. Or at least lessen it

How do people prevent this? Get under the car with a hose?

And WTF do i need heated/cooled seats and all this dumbass other shite for? It's just more shite to break that i cant replace.

Pump the brakes kid. Heated seas are legit. Even in warm months. I’ve used them numerous times and wish I had them now. Manufactures don’t put that shite in vehicles cause no one wants it.!! Maybe you should find a stripped down vehicle instead of criticizing manufacturers. If people didn’t want all those luxuries, they wouldn’t offer them. And of all the things to fuss about, I’ve never heard anyone bitch about heated and cooled seats.

Right? If you've got back problems it's nice to have on your commute.

Too bad the ventilated seats are pretty much only on the premium trim levels.

Give me a model with all the safety sensors and ventilated seats and you can cut out the tech and the other stuff.

I have manual windows (which are also safer) and no console. I'm going to make my current ride last as long as possible.

Power windows is one of the few power features that I really like. Rolling down the passenger from the driver’s seat is very handy.

Otherwise, I think the fewer high tech accessories the better.

We rented a grand wagoneer to go hunting last fall. That damn thing was virtually undrivable. Occasionally you would get in it and it wouldn’t move. Never could figure it out. We would shut it down wait 15 minutes and try again.
The damn 4 wheel drive button was next to the cup holder. Crazy vehicle.

This one gets me every time- why do we need LED gauge clusters?

The main reason for full electronic gauge clusters is that they are configurable. Don't want all the real estate taken up with a typical analog speedometer, switch it to a simple number in the HUD and devote that space to a bigger tach or, in most cases, a central mapping display or CarPlay. A modernist sees it as a feature a Luddite sees it as a bug.

If the OP wants a vehicle without all the modern “luxuries”, he need only to go buy a Toyota Tundra from 2018 or earlier. It’ll last for years but it offers none of the
Modern conveniences.

Wait wait wait...you mean if I want...level readouts...I can have level readouts?

If i want gauges I can have gauges?

If I just want numbers I can have numbers?

And I can just...change my mind if I feel like a change?

What do I have to buy new layouts?

Also a large part of the reason that your vehicle insurance has jumped in prices too. Someone threw a yogurt cup on my son’s car. It oozed down between the door and the window and caused $9000 in electronics damage.
