Halloween was my favorite holiday for years. Some time ago I transitioned to Thanksgiving. Anything that slows the Christmas juggernaut from showing up before December is fine with me.

Doesn’t bother me. There is one woman in my neighborhood who sees Halloween as being akin to devil worship.
I mean this woman has decided her life’s mission is to preach about the evils of Halloween. In my town’s downtown area they do this “witches ride” where people dress up as a witch and ride a bicycle down the street throwing candy out to kids. She took to Facebook and went on a rant about how this was “opening a portal to hell” in our town. And if your church does one of those “trunk or treat” things, she considers you and your church to be satanists.
What’s funny though, we live in the most popular neighborhood for trick or treating in my hometown. There is always a mob of kids. But every year instead of turning out her lights so people know to skip her house, she leaves all her outside lights on and tapes a note to the front door about how “this house” doesn’t recognize Halloween because it’s “of the devil”.

I just get drunk and pass out candy while my wife escorts the kids around the neighborhood. Not really much to hate about it

New Years Eve and Valentines Day are the 2 most overrated holidays of the year.
I like Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving......

Passionately. It’s easily my least favorite holiday.
And what’s with the umpteen trunk or treat events being held in the weeks leading to Halloween? Why can’t it be held on Oct. 31, and that’s it?

I don't like it but It the last bullshite until Thanksgiving, rifle season, Christmas and the closest thing to a winter we get in Louisiana.

How hard is it to ignore if you don't like it?

I definitely agree with you Walrus. I passed out candy a couple of times and I'll never do it again. I'm not giving out candy to sixteen and seventeen year old people. Sadly I live in a subdivision that is known for passing out heaps of candy. I get pissed off when I would see trucks filled with kids in the back of the truck stop and all the kids would jump out and scatter out among the neighborhood to ask for candy. After about an hour the truck would return to where it dropped the kids off and the kids would appear with bags loaded with candy. I don't mind giving candy out but I refuse to give out candy to kids who live at least five miles from where I live. So, I just turn my outside lights off until the time ends for trick or treating.

I don’t celebrate satanic holidays.

If you have kids and a wife that likes dressing them up it is impossible to ignore without being an a-hole.

I can not stand Halloween. Its a ridiculous Holiday.

Growing up, I was never allowed to "celebrate" halloween. It was the devil's holiday.
As I've gotten older, I just have no desire to participate in any kind of festivities related to halloween. I live in a spot where houses are on a couple of acres and we don't have any halloween traffic which is fortunate.

Who has kids and hates Halloween, though? I figured OP was just some forever-bachelor.

Without kids it is fairly simple to ignore.

Just need to make Halloween the last Saturday in October. Would be much better.

I don’t know just in a particularly shitty mood today and didn’t feel like dealing with coworkers kids unsolicited. I guess Halloween always depresses me because it was one of the first signs I wasn’t “normal” like everyone else because I found no joy in the holiday and never wanted to wear a costume. Just a harbinger for the severe depression that’s overtaken my life.

Yeah I wish it was that easy though.

Dude, that makes me sad for you.
I’m sorry I jokingly called you an a-hole.
