Overall, I really like my job. It’s rewarding and the pay is overall worth the work. That being said, speaking with my boss is like rolling a six sided die and that’s the emotion for the day. Might be mad, might be happy, might be giving kudos to someone for small accomplishments, might be ripping into someone for something that was never an issue in the past. Overall a good person, just never know what you’re going to get. Anyone else deal with this kind of situation?

Learn to take advantage of his or her different moods and play your emotional boss like a fiddle.

I’d say that some people have tried this and it hasn’t worked out great for them.

Be thankful he has one consistent emotion for the day lol.

Mine would swing wildly from one conversation to the next. His instability and abrasive demeanor eventually got him canned, and he was an extremely high performer.

Yep. Work for someone just like you describe.
I disagree on one point though. Cannot be an overall "good person". Anyone who acts this way toward employees is a fricking a-hole. Period. Narcissistic control freak with an inferiority complex. (Stands about 5'6" at most.)
I just interact as little as possible, and try to keep the idiot out of the loop in any way possible.

Man you just described my boss to a freaking T (also not a female). I tell my wife he’s like Jekyll and Hyde. He can literally pop in your office and be the nicest guy, joking and BSing, walk down the hall, and come back and be in the worst mood. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. He’s also not a bad guy either and will (on occasion) apologize for his attitude. But man it’s tough to deal with it.

It’s ridiculous though, our office is a lot more inefficient than it should be because people will not go talk to him when they have question because they don’t want to deal with it, so things tend to sit.

Tell her she’s acting like her mother. I’m sure that’ll fix it.

Yeah i remember dreading having to ping mine a question or attend calls with him. It got so bad I eventually started laying awake restless on Sunday nights just agonizing over opening my laptop to whatever bombs he had been throwing in my inbox or fights he had been picking with other departments / suppliers

My last boss was like that but more on the bad side. I had worked on other jobs with him so he didn’t bother me. He had people terrified of him. He’s 5’6” 230 lbs of just a narcissist arse hole. I used to try and calm him down but it never worked He would come to work looking for confrontation

I find a lot of people leave my boss out of the loop completely as well.

Its pretty bad. I really don’t think he looks for confrontation, he just has zero interpersonal skills. My wife thinks I’m an idiot for sticking around (and I probably am) but he’s really good at what he does and I’ve learned a ton. He’s without question the best Engineer I’ve ever worked for/with, while also being the absolute worst boss from a personnel standpoint.

I’m the type that wants to solve problems and fix things while my boss wants the system to fail. Just gets old after a while.

Female boss. Makes decisions like a child. Change how one particular thing has been done forever because of one disgruntled person. Then forget about decision or give up because you can’t pay for the change with manpower or equipment.

Change a policy on a medication because one MD agrees. Check with zero committees, zero other MD and put none of the policy in writing.
