It's hard to feel sorry for Lakeview residents. For Orleans Parish, it likely has the lowest crime rates with the least dangerous types of crimes.
I don't think anyone expects the rest of the city to feel sorry for Lakeview but it's crazy to say Lakeview should ignore this because it could be worse. Ignoring this simply tells these kids we can do this and the police won't bother us.

Lakeview has had license plate readers for two years.

They don't prevent, but they flash stolen cars and many of these punks are in stolen cars. You will see a story every week or every other week about a chase in JP after a license plate was pinged. Those readers are all over Kenner and metairie now.

How are license plate readers going to prevent car burglaries? Serious question

ETA to add quote

Lakeview resident Gino Ascani, co-founder of Lakeview Citizen Watch and one of the most vocal critics of city leaders’ handling of the issue, showed up prepared to demand that the Lakeview Crime Prevention District — which charges all neighborhood property owners $150 a year to provide extra police patrols — spend roughly $100,000 to add crime cameras and license-plate readers.

Problem is, these kids are stealing cars, committing the burglaries and ditching the cars before the car is even reported stolen....I dont see that being very effective

JP seems to be getting pretty good run out of them, but then again, they are allowed to follow them

I dont see why the city doesn't just set up bait cars around the city

2 days later we had a bbq at a neighbors house attended by 2 council persons and the parish president. We requested license plate readers at a few main entry points into the neighborhood (the same thing lakeview is asking for) and we had them a week later.
Exactly my point (assuming you are talking about Jeff Parish).
And sorry, Lakeview does not have any more "NOLA culture" than Bucktown, Bonnabel Place, Old Metairie, Old Jefferson, or various other parts of JP that White New Orleans Yats dispersed to in the 50s-80s.
Also- Uptown, Bywater, Marigny, Carrollton, and Warehouse District lost authenticity a long time ago. The "character"of New Orleans has become a caricature attempt to recreate something that the recreators don't understand anyway.
So just live somewhere you like and don't bitch if your choice has obvious results.
If you live in Lakeview, the city govt will not do jack squat to solve your crime issues. End of story

That is what the kids know and will continue to know.
There is a zero percent chance anything will change.

LV residents can't afford that after paying orleans property taxes and utilities
Then they should sell that house they can’t afford and move to Kenner

Yes but you actually are receiving the services you pay for.

Love me some Gino.
Forever the Machino.
Just get the city to agree to put him in charge of LV security.
There may be a few dead teen criminals, but the crime will stop really quick!

Yep. Bad streets get fixed.
When it rains, the pumps get turned on.
Police response is stupid fast

What happened to the Real Time Crime center in NOLA??
How much money did Mitch and his cronies make off this failure?

It sounded like there was some good information shared. Also that break ins dropped after juvenile court started holding kids with prior records before issuing bond.
Didn’t that rule go into affect a couple of weeks ago

Wether you believe the claim or not one of the panel said daily reports have dropped considerably since the policy started. If it truly is a small group doing it over and over this would make sense.

They have in the past.
There is a b-rate tv show called Bait Car that airs on justice tv or something. Based in NOLA and Slidell mainly.

Right, we not only have them at 7 locations, but they're now on top of every marked unit. As an example, look at the bridge by Hynes, white oval shaped device on the pole.
Lack of manpower plus the inability to chase a stolen car renders them useless.
Also, none of it has even worked since the cyber attack.
