Lakeshore and Lake Vista are both super nice, but they each feel even less like New Orleans than Lakeview.

ETA: I realize that those condos on Roadway and Breakwater are not in Lakeshore.

Not far at all. If it's not raining then it's not an issue for people that have two working legs.

sorry, didn't know. I do love that area and the bars and restaurants.

Made a wrong turn one day and ended up passing up those condos. Was a very neat area.

Some of yall make it sound like Uptown and Midcity have a grocery store and a bar on every corner. Much of UPT and MidCity is not close to grocery stores etc.

not sure why you are quoting me, cause I don't think mid city and uptown are extremely walkable either

sure it's doable, but for most of the year, a 9 block walk is going to leave you pretty sweaty, not really what I want to do while taking my family out to eat or walking with groceries. I can walk for miles, doesn't mean it makes a lot of sense to

I guess that's a fair point. And there really aren't too many tree-lined streets in Lakeview that could provide a shaded walk.

Lakeview was much better pre-Katrina before all the Kennerites moved in and overbuilt.

I just see nothing about Lakeview, save for the truly walkable areas that justify $50 psf more than Metairie north of W Esplanade, and that's not even factoring in taxes and insurance hikes.

All of the people who swooped in right after Katrina and were able to get things at a reasonable price, I get that.

Anyone who has bought or built there in the last 7 or so years, they paid too much (I know that that is subjective, but they have a very good chance that their home values will never be what they paid for them when the boom ends)

Half the point of a walk is to get some fresh air. Is it hot during the summmer? Sure, but it's hot AF all throughout metro N.O. for 5 months out of the year.

I have friends who live off St. Charles, magazine, Carrolton etc... they aren't walking to grocery shop and eat out.

Why does every thread regarding any topic involving NOLA turn into a debate about neighborhoods? Boringly predictable. How many posts in this thread are actually about the crime or town hall?

It sounded like there was some good information shared. Also that break ins dropped after juvenile court started holding kids with prior records before issuing bond. Some people there weren’t going to be happy no matter what was said.

Lakeview needs to let the roads get worse so that the criminal element can't drive away so fast

A cop was quoted last year that more of the car break-ins are at the western edge near City Park because Filmore, Argonne, Robt. E. Lee make for fast getaways. The idiots that were caught two weeks ago were on one of the worst streets in Lakeview trolling cars when folks were going to school/work (as Walton and Johnson always said, "Criminals is stupid").

That being said, I live in Lakeview. Yes, we deal with the shite that is New Orleans--taxes, politics, bad streets, etc. But I love the area myself. Nice people (as the Civic Assn T-shirt says, "come for the people, stay because you're stuck in a pothole"), cool bars/restaurants, close to City Park, lakefront. And car break-ins suck, but for the most part it's extremely safe. I'm more likely to get shot if I live uptown or in Mid-City.

And here's my favorite guy from the meeting last night. A friend of mine who's always good at making his point and giving you a laugh at a civic function.

I don’t think asking for license plate readers and cameras is asking too much. Lakeview residents pay a lot of money to have the LCPD car parked on the corner of Argonne and Robert e lee 75% of the time

I've lived in 3 different spots in uptown, and every single one has had an easily walkable bar and grocery store.

Breaux Mart, Zara's, Langensteins, Whole Foods, Rouse's and Winn Dixie make all houses riverside of St. Charles walkable to a grocery store. There are probably 10x the amount of bars in that same area
