I lived in Hatcher and was listening to KAAY from Little Rock when it was announced about Jim Croce. he was a great songwriter and singer. Skynwyrd was coming to BR.

Everytime I heard time in a bottle after that was chilling.

No loss whatsoever. It is hilarious how people put celebrities on such a pedastal that they think they are gods...

You're probably right. I doubt he would have ever written or recorded another song had he lived.

funny, I had the same reaction when I heard about Maya Angelou yesterday.

But I'm not sure anyone put Jim on a pedestal in this thread. Just asked about his death.

Rapid Roy and I Got A Name are my 2 favorite songs, but ALL of his songs are great.

He was from Philadelphia, but a lot of people assumed he was Southern based on his accent.

Most of his hits he recorded, if I remember correctly, came after he died. His wife made bank.

yep, he was on his way up, making his bones the old fashioned way, never got to see what it was like to have "made it", similar to Duane Allman

This is completely false. Jim made next to nothing during the height of his popularity. He was locked into a poor record deal and his management was paying him next to nothing. After his death his wife had to sue the record companies and management to ensure that his estate was paid his fair share of royalties.

I didn't say it was a big bank.

he wasn't alone, at about the same time, the Beatles, Stones, Who, and many others pretty much had nothing($) to show for their careers at that point, for similar reasons

For sure. Croce was a song writing genius. He would be mentioned with the best had his life not been cut short.

I remember being told that after the concert, local law enforcement was tipped off that Croce and his band had weed on them. The group found out the cops were on to them and they made a hasty takeoff and the pilot lost control of the plane and it crashed.
Some months later, I was living in north Louisiana and asked a sheriff's deputy In an adjourning parish that I became friends with and he confirmed that version of the story.

Off 28W on the way to the airbase.

No.

If he was a drinking man, quite likely.

LOTS of brawling at times - although my dad had it relatively under control before he left. He was even stabbed once. Pops was like a round, 40ish version of Dalton from Roadhouse.
