Felt unsanitary too, the first thing I wanted to do when I got off is take a long hot shower and burn my clothes
I cannot imagine getting on a Greyhound bus in 2019.
I’m sure there honestly are some good “real” folks on them but in general Greyhounds are like mobile HOFs for people who make bad decisions their SOP.

Yes. I was a putz the first time I went to college. When I moved home my parents made me take the bus.

Why are you on a greyhound? Why aren’t you driving or flying?
Not sure about the OP, but due to my Dad's and then Mom's failing health, I had a need to be back and forth from Houston almost monthly during a good swath of 2015-2018. I kept a car at my Mom's in Baton Rouge and I took (mostly) MegaBus and (sometimes) Greyhound a couple dozen times I think.
I chose not to drive it, for a number of reasons. There were a couple downsides, but here's the upsides:
- free (and decent to good) WiFi so I was able to work my sales job (and post on the O-T) for the duration
- the trip by car tends to take 4.5 hours. By bus, as little as 5.0 to 5.5 hours (so not that bad)
- met some interesting folks along the way, including a kid playing Div II basketball heading home for Thanksgiving, and some European tourists.
- no stress AT ALL from a-hole, slow, dangerous drivers
- when there was a delay on I-10.. no worries.. just got more work done
- 75% of the time the seat next to me was empty
- on a nasty, rainy day, it is nice to NOT be gripping the steering wheel for dear life... ok but yea, also hoping the bus driver (and bus) is in good condition as well. But statistically, and by miles driven, those busses are safe as shite.

In my experience, about 40% fall into your latter category. I've definitely met a few interesting, decent, good, real folks on MegaBus and Greyhound. And seen some TRASH too.

I've taken this bus from Dallas to Austin before:
LINK
Waitress brings you drinks, food etc. Pretty legit and takes about the same time as flying overall.

My aunt rode one into town several years ago due to certain circumstances. Two rows in front of her, there was what was obviously an inmate being transferred along with 4 armed officers. Why the hell would an inmate be transferred on a bus where the general public would be riding?

You'll likely have PTSD before you get to your destination.

Wrecked my car in freshman year at lsu. My dad made me greyhound back to school and then back when summer started to help him fix my car. We used shite from the junkyard and I drove a car that was 3 different colors until I was 24
