I have a potential opportunity in Matthews, NC. I would be working in Matthews so not traveling. I am more interested in know what kind of town it is and is it a good place to raise a family. This would be a last stop type of position and want to get thoughts on it before I swing up there to visit.

Small little place outside of Charlotte. Urban sprawl has made them almost become one. DT Matthews to DT Charlotte is 25-30 minutes but in the morning...45+
Family thing should be pleasant. The High school DID have a shooting (murder) 2+ weeks ago, but it was a bullying thing gone bad, I think.

You aren't far from Charlotte and NC is pretty cool and pretty terrain so if nothing else there is that.

Very typical suburb. Has grown a ton over the last 15 years due to sprawl. Good schools. Safe. Not going to set your pants on fire with things to do, but Charlotte is close enough. You get four full seasons. You are 3.5 hours to Charleston and 2 hours to the mountains. You could do much worse.

I am looking at that area in about a year. That’s all I have.

Demographics look pretty nice

Not sure about Matthews, but Charlotte is awesome. I haven't been to any place in that part of NC that wasn't somewhere you'd want to live.

Not a bad area. If you're looking for a more rural area, right across the state line in SC is up your alley. You'll be 3 hours from NC beaches and even closer to the mountains.

That area of NC is quite nice. Most of NC is.

It's just a suburb of Charlotte, which has a lot of suburbs.

There are a few nice little towns to the South of Matthews, within 15 minutes: Weddington, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel, and Mineral Springs. All are convenient to the 485 loop. Also consider Indian Land, located just on the other side of the NC/SC border. Much better tax situation in SC.
Anything between Charlotte and Matthews along HWY 74 is pretty undesirable.
Not Sure what your finances are, but the Southpark area of Charlotte is very nice and is very convenient to Matthews as well.
You really have a lot of options, the further south you go, the more rural it gets. Northwest is one of the nicer places for everything within Charlotte proper.
ETA: Great area to raise a family, I personally would look in the Weddington/Waxhaw areas. Great public Schools, Demographics,Crime Rate. Mostly good Southern folks. Lots of ways to get to and from Matthews from that area.

Pretty good place to raise a family. My brother has been a dentist in Matthews for 20 years and seems to love it.

It is about 20 - 25 minutes south of downtown charlotte. Worked with a ton of people who live there and work in south park. It's definitely once of the nicer more affordable places around to raise a family (In the Charlotte metro).

I live basically between the SouthPark ares and Matthews.
If you work in Matthews, you have a lot of options for living within 20-30 minutes. Also plenty of neighborhoods in Matthews itself. Family Dollar is moving a ton of jobs out of Matthews which stinks for the town, but might moderate real estate prices a bit, at least temporarily as in general the Charlotte area is exploding.
Charlotte and Matthews have basically grown into each other, not really much of a separation. It has a little downtown area with a couple interesting spots but you are fairly close to Ballantyne, SouthPark, NoDa, and uptown for more shopping, restaurants, etc. Some moderately dicey spots along the Independence Blvd (hwy 74), but easy to avoid. Not really a concern in my opinion.

Seems better than your current situation.
