Buddy of mine is a construction PM for a company that builds hotels and got assigned to build 2 hotels in the Virgin Islands.
Been down there for 3 years and I think has 2 to go.
Managing Construction has it's challenges down there.
I'm glad your buddy is happy.
I had an offer to work in Latin America, I passed.
I'd do it again (pass on it) watching what happened from afar.

What's the best tourist island to meet and talk with tourist, say, girls beach trip type stuff.
Costa Rica was pretty out of control. Let's go and not "bring the sand to the beach" like my last trip. lol

Don't bring sand to the beach; there's already pussy there

I 100% agree with this. It was er'where

I'm just sitting here waiting for my name to come up in the lottery.

My best friend from high school graduated from college in accounting, moved to Hawaii, now teaches bike safety to elementary school kids, surfs, and acts like he knows everything about life.

Good point, and it'll be cheaper

Hawaii is a tough place to escape the rat race. It's expensive

He was never a rat race guy...just kinda went because it was better than everything else I think...

Not the islands but I know a few people who went to Montana to guide and aren't ever leaving. One of them spends the winter in Argentina guiding down there.

Radio guy I know developed a computer program to upload weather reports to any radio station who signed up.
He does weather reports for over 30 stations in 15 different cities all from the Bahamas.

LOL, ask my sister about "living in the islands". She'll tell you its great the first year or so, then "island life" gets old. quickly. And she lived in St.Thomas USVI.
Having been to the not so nice parts of many places in the Caribbean, living there would get old quickly. Especially if you didn't have the cash flow to live like a king.
Outside of the tourist areas, people are dirt arse poor living in half completed houses with no floors.

I know that guy. He tried to sell me a ship in a bottle.

I love USVI but I don't think I'd want to live down there. I can see how living the "local life" would get old.
I know some dudes on Cayman who do it, and they love it, but I think you've got to have that "could give a shite" personality. Most people I've met in this category live like bums, work as it suits them (often odd jobs) and chase trashy women. It sounds fun, but I don't think it's for me.
Now, I do think I could do it if I was quite wealthy. But a normal guy getting by in paradise? Nah. But I don't fault anyone who does.

Yeah, my buddy ended up giving up a glorious life and moved to Delacroix Island. Said it was the best decision he ever made.

I would also worry about how I was going to retire. Livin the life and selling hooka necklaces on the beach is great, but not at 65. Then what?

He said its brutal getting anything done, but he just looks around at his surroundings and forgets to be mad.
But yeah, he said the project he's on now would take about 6 months in the US and is taking 3 years there. Labor is terrible, getting materials is a hassle, etc.

Spot on. Some people like that kind of go with the flow, don't know where the next meal is coming from, kind of life. Personally, I don't think I could do it.
We met an American girl from Texas in St Thomas who was doing tours. She spent a good hour just talking to us. She echoed that the first year or so was great, but after that point, it got old fast and she was trying to get back to America once she saved up enough money.
