In the simplest form of looking at it, if you are burning more calories than you take in, you lose weight. If you are eating more, you gain weight. It works that way for everyone.

Obviously it gets more complex than that, when you start breaking it all down. You can eat fewer calories, and be unhealthy (see Liz), but if you are talking simply losing weight, eat less calories and burn more.

Calorie-counting can lose you weight but you can obviously do it in an unhealthy manner. I lost about 85 pounds a while ago by counting calories but now I'm trying to eat more of a keto diet while eating calories to keep me roughly at the same weight I am now. We'll see how that goes.

C'mon, I workout, in my own way. Drinking too much wine is my biggest problem. Eat what you want, just in small portions.

Thanks, got it.

Do you find it harder to lose the closer you get to your goal?

Not on a diet because I don’t need to lose weight. More of a shift to healthier eating and significantly cutting out alcohol.

sure you did shorty, get off the OT right now!!

skeleton deteriorates over age btw, weight lifting and calcium can slow it down

ETA: grew up with Terry Bradshaw, he was listed at 6'3" when he was drafted, was 6'4", saw him the other day and he's about my height, 6'1", a real 6'1"

Age does suck at times and can be a slight disadvantage to some.

Right. That's why I said in the simplest form. I am not eating a full fledge keto diet, but what I am doing has a lot of keto similarities. I find that I need to get a large variety, and not totally cut out some of the things I love. Rather, I'll eat the things I really like less often and in moderation when I do eat them.

Absolutely. The first few weeks you see a big drop, especially if you were eating really bad and you switch to eating really well. Then you will eventually stabilize as you aren't carrying around that same amount of water weight. Standing on a scale a week later, after you feel you have had a great week, and seeing only a half pound disappear is discouraging. Minor tweaks can help push you where you need to be though.

Age, with a slowed down metabolism, is the killer. I left high school at 130, soaking arse wet. I would eat three good meals a day, eat in between, pick up a Whopper for a snack, and couldn't put on a pound. I was a damn twig. Of course, I was playing baseball, basketball, track, and was nonstop year round. I kept doing those things untill probably about 25. If I ate like that today I would pack on 50 pounds in two damn months.
