When did that start? My school played against all these in the 90s and 00s and we were in the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) Sucked driving to MS for district sports games.
The private school I attended graduated its first class in 1971.

So no, the MPSA did not become another entity in '91-'92

You need to educate yourself on how white flight works. I don't really feel like engaging any further than that.

Why should it matter what race makes up the majority of town or school?

Why would white kids going to private school make public schools bad? Like others have said, taxes are still being paid.

n the 70's, I had plenty of North Louisiana friends who went to River Oaks in Monroe, Ridgedale Academy in West Monroe and Cedar Creek in Ruston. In the early 70's when I lived in Kosciusko, MS I knew kids who went to East Holmes Academy in Durant. A lot of the same kind of parents are home schooling kids today.

Cedar Creek is no longer segregated. It's still majority white, but KJ Malone went there, and He wasn't the only black kid. Ruston has always had a pretty good public school system, and many-I don't think a majority-but many, Cedar Creek kids are from surrounding towns like Jonesboro, Farmerville, etc, that are too small to have their own private schools.

Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA)

They changed it to MAIS (Mississippi Association of Independent Schools) around 2009. They thought it sounded better than Mississippi Private School Association.

The former -LISA school I attended was included in the MPSA when LISA folded in the early '90's. The school I attended started shortly after segregation in the early 1970's.

Looking at SC, there are 2 segregation academies still around. One is called "Robert E. Lee Academy". I mean, come on now.
Alabama has two Robert E Lee High Schools. One is in Huntsville and the other in Montgomery. Lee Huntsville is mostly black, I think and Lee Montgomery is all black Montgomery also has Jeff Davis High which is almost all black now as well The irony

This happens in public schools as well. I honestly can't blame parents for not wanting their kids in certain public school. As a former public school teacher I wouldn't send my daughter to any school that I taught at. It's much worse than you can imagine. Kids cursing at teachers and parents defending their behavior. When you have 4 to 5 kids in every class that are only their to hangout and the district refuses to remove them then the schools are going to suffer. My wife and I are having the debate about where I'll children will go to school. We both WANT to send them to public but we both know we will probably be sending them to private.

The other option was the local failing public school system that the state has to come in every so often, act they they are taking over and turning things around, only to be classsified as a failing school system year after year after year. The private school that I attended has a graduation rate of 98% and considered one of the best in the state at the time. My parents told me that my education was of extreme importance and they were going to give me every opportunity to receive such an education.

Do you think things would be better today if integration would have happened as intended and the private school would have never opened?

Maybe. Then argument comes when you have such a contrast in parental and school performance expectations, the private school option is very appealing. Small classes, safe environment, quality teachers who are there to make a divider be and not to receive retirement benefits, and every student, not all, are EXPECTED to attend a 4 year college. The old saying " you are only as strong as your weakest link" is correct. Kids performaning at a high level can't be, and shouldn't be, expected to be have to wait so the school system can cater to kids who are slower or just don't give a damn. The private schools don't have to cater to the weakest and slowest and there in lies the problem with the question would the public schools have been better off without private schools ever opening. It would have happened sooner or later, in this cases it just happened sooner.

You'd be amazed at the amount of money spend on the kids that are the weakest academically and don't care. Entire schools are forced to cater to them and it isn't fair to the good kids.
