Anybody here ever torn a hamstring?

Playing softball and tore my hamstring. Nastiest pop I have ever heard or felt. Saw a physical therapist and he tells me it's a grade 2 tear at the top of the hammy where it meets the bone. Have to see an orthopedic specialist next week to determine if I need surgery. Lots of pain but no bruising anywhere on my leg.
Anybody have any experience with this as far as recovery time, potential for surgery etc?

when standing, how close can you come to touching your heel to your arse?

Yes, and did it trying to stretch a double into a triple. Felt like I had been shot. Couldn't walk for 2-3 days.
After ACL surgery was actually faster than before. With hamstring, never the same again

severely pulled mine once and it was absolutely no fun for a couple of weeks ... first few days were hell ... can't imagine tearing one ...

I was sitting Indian style on a tube being dragged behind a boat on a lake with another person on a different tube doing the same. We collided after swept up by the wake and my tube got flipped up and over sending in the air legs flaying all about. As soon as my left leg hit the surface of the water it shot behind my body and I somehow kicked myself in the back of the head. The pain was unreal, and I couldn't move my leg at all without agitating my hamstring. Thought it was torn at first, but never went to a doctor to get it evaluated so after about a month it was back to normal so I'm guessing it was hyperextended. Funny part about it was I tried to play basketball on it like 2 weeks after it happened and looked like Kevin Spacey hobbling around in The Usual Suspects.

So you tore it, felt the pop and everything and we're back walking normal after 3 days?

Scared to try until I get an MRI honestly. Can I potentially make it worse?

Yeah tore it twice in my right leg. Once it tears it'll always be close to tearing again. Warm up and stretch a lot. One took about 6 months to heal. The second I took care of it a lot better and it was good after about 3 or 4 months.

Yes. But your MRI will tell you the results either way.

Take it easy. It's a slow healing muscle and it sucks if you're older
I tried to work out and run through one and it got worse. Rest and ice

Did yours pop and/or bruise badly? Trying to determine severity of mine. It popped bad but no bruising.

if you haven't done it, I wouldn't try. asking because a friend had a quad tore off the bone on the front and he could not straighten his leg out while sitting.

Tore mine while several years ago, It felt like someone snapped a rubber band in side my right leg. Instantly got really hot and developed a grapefruit sized bruise on the back of my thigh. I was on crutches for about 2 weeks but the lingering effects lasted for almost a year.

Yes. After a ruptured Achilles, torn mcl, and torn meniscus...the hammy was the final straw.

Kinda ironic with your username.

Grade 2 muscle strain is a partial tear usually resulting in pain and diminished strength/range of motion.
Grade 2 strains can be treated with out surgery requiring a month or two of recovery. MRI will be able to further detail the extent of injury.
