My mom saw him at the Louisiana Hayride. She thought he was trashy.

Very true!
Elvis changed the world in many ways, the
Pressure that comes with that Amount of Fame and scrutiny would Change anyone and everyone except for Jesus himself.
Nobody can pass judgement on who they think Elvis was.
I’m a YUGE Elvis fan, and By all accounts of the people that truly knew him, I w always heard and read mostly good things about his TRUE character.
NOBODY can say that they would be able to stay grounded in that lifestyle and fame.

Worst thing he ever did was living in Vegas in that den of inequity.

That's some good stuff. Bayou Teche Brewery has a kitchen that serves some good ones

My aunt was a stewardess (back in the day when you had to be an attractive female) for Northwest out of Memphis. She got to know Elvis pretty well. She brought my parents over to meet him on one occasion. That's all I got.

My great aunt served him at a diner in texas, had her picture taken with him, and a napkin signed. They did a write up about him visiting the diner in their local paper

My Dad said when he was stationed at Fort Sill, he saw Elvis perform in some shithole bar.

Man I went to camp win a friend and it was awesome and now that I know Elvis had a hand in building the place is even cooler. I still have my trophy from that camp.

Momma saw him in Tupelo in 56 and again in 74 at the Mid South Coliseum in Memphis.
I remember wanting to go to the Memphis concert, I was seven.

When you see footage of him from those two different eras, it’s hard to believe it was the same person.. i always thought young Elvis was the coolest cat to ever walk the planet .. old Elvis i wasnt so much a fan of .. as John Lennon said- The army killed Elvis Presley.. well, that and breakfast .

My mom saw him perform at the National Guard Armory when she was in elementary school in her tiny hometown before he was even known outside of North Mississippi.

My father went through US Army basic training two cycles after Elvis did, and my dad had Elvis's drill sergeant as his drill sergeant.
The drill sergeant was very complimentary of Elvis, said he tried very hard to be a good soldier and get along with everyone.
Sorry, that's all I've got.

I had a buddy in college whose dad was a barrack mate of Elvis' during basic training at Ft. Hood. He said his dad talked about how Elvis wanted to be treated like a normal recruit during their time together and was a genuinely nice guy. Never asked for any special treatment and just tried to fit in with everyone else.

My great uncle was a clerk in the army that did discharge papers. They told him they had a celebrity coming in that day, but not to tell anyone. It was Elvis, and when he had Elvis sign his discharge papers, he said he messed something up and put the paper in the trash and had Elvis sign another one. He still has Elvis’s discharge paper at his house.
