I’m think 2-3 days with no contact with family, friends, or work. Maybe just check up on the wife and kid a few times. Just a break from having to deal with anything. Anybody ever pull this off? Are you still married?

You can accomplish something like this by going camping with the family and telling the wife that you’re gonna go fish or hunt by yourself for a bit...

I have went backpacking alone in the wilderness a few times. Not after I had kids though.

Not sure I would want to do that with kids, especially after one of my friends got in a wreck on the first day of one of my trips and I didn't know about it till I got back 5 days later.

The fact that he could have died and buried and I would have missed it really hit me hard.

Manresa House of Retreats. It’s exactly what you requested.

Get a job that requires travel and then you only have to come home for 2-3 days a week

Yes, this is either what camping or the city of New Orleans is for. I'm going to New Orleans on Tuesday for Dead & Company (Grateful Dead) concert, and don't plan to return to normality for a few days.

Years ago, I had a fantasy of walking into the airport and buying a ticket on the next available flight. Grab a room in that city for a couple days, then fly home.

Never did it. Not ruling it out one day.

I don't have a wife or kids, but, if I did, I think that would be kind of difficult. Unless the kids were young and the wife was ok with it, but their your responsibility and you can't just escape them. Again, I think that, unless you're having some issues and talk to your wife about it and you both agree on what's best. Also, if that is the case, may need to seek some help.

Anyways though, like I said, I'm not married, nor do I have kids. I'm single right now and I enjoy it because I can get away from everything and just relax for awhile. Sometimes, I enjoy going to my camp alone and just relaxing on a weekend or long weekend if I take some days off. I travel overseas a lot for work and it helps me refuel/regenerate. I'll go out there sometimes and not do much, except enjoy the quiet and maybe fish. I'll rent a few Redbox movies and just enjoy some time alone.

I just don't see being able to do that with kids and/or a wife though. Like I said, when you get married, you're making a commitment to be there for that person and the same should apply when you have kids.

Two days in Atlanta doesn't sound that great.

There is no way possible I could go completely off the grid for five days. I have too much real life responsibility. I can do it as long as I have at least one person that can get in touch with me and I can at least check in once a day with someone. I may be able to do it for two days max but no way I could pull it off for 5 days.

Buddies fishing camp in Venice. I might fire off a text when we get back before the we light up the pit and start pilling back the bourbon and cigars.

I do this once a year with my best friends. The dates always change but this past October we all went down to Big Bend National Park for 4 nights and 5 days. Hiked all day, drank beer & grilled at night in campsite. Last year we hiked black creek trail in Mississippi, year before we paddled blackwater river in Florida panhandle, before that we hiked Cheha state park in Alabama, etc.
I think it’s heakthy to get away from everything and challenge yourself to something, for myself and my friends we enjoy the outdoors.
My wife and her girlfriends do a trip every year as well. They do spas and hotels and stuff but to each their own.
Don’t feel guilty. Pick a place and go do something.
And yes I have kids, 7 & 4
