How was the recovery? Was it worth it? Mine would be done to prevent future traumas and irritation. Wisdom teeth removed at same time. Any experiences would be appreciated. TIA

You learn something new every day on the OT...and it beats working by 2 mandible tori's.

quote:

(tori mandibulares) (or mandibular torus (pl. mandibular tori) in English) is a bony growth in the mandible along the surface nearest to the tongue. Mandibular tori are usually present near the premolars and above the location of the mylohyoid muscle's attachment to the mandible.

I've taken many off and can tell you the whole process sounds much worse than it is. If you're doing it in conjunction with 3rd molar removal It will be no big deal. Take your pain meds ( I prefer a steroid and NSAID combination) and you'll do just fine.

I have actually performed that surgery a couple of times.

I don’t know what’s more difficult, actually doing the surgery or the recovery for the patient.

There is no way I get that surgery to prevent some hypothetical future trauma. The only clear cut indication for this surgery is pre prosthetic (prior to placing a denture).

Get the wisdom teeth removed but pass on the tori reduction.

I had it done in January. The hardest part was getting over anesthesia. Once I woke up good I felt hardly and pain, kept thinking meds hasn’t wore off. Had it done because of trauma to the are and was in major pain from that for about two weeks!! Would do it again in a heart beat

I had a Marksvillian Sarah removed in my 20s. Best thing I ever did.

No if you didn’t even know what they were prior to your consultation. Also, did your OMFS treatment plan the reduction or just say during your exam that you’ve got them and it’s something he can reduce if you’re interested?

Yes if they do bother you or frequently get cut by sharp foods like chips. You’ll only have to be sedated/take off work/take pain meds once.
