using it to visit with a camper to relax a few weeks during the year? I wouldnt mind buying a few acres in a mountain area. Have been looking over a few websites and found some nice places with just the land. Anyone done this ? Any pitfalls or anything i need to know? I know about property taxes and all but was wondering if there was anything else i need to look for?

Why would you buy land to camp on a couple of weeks per year when you can hit up campsites practically for free?

Walk it a few times and then you're bored. Just go camp at a state park.

Bc he will own it. They don't make more land. Value goes up, great investment.

You just go buy land and I'll let my dog pick random stocks and rental properties and he will do 10x better than you

Not really looking for an huge investment property . I'm doing ok on that just looking for a place to get away for a few weeks during the year and could build something eventually. Was just wondering if the OT ballers had bought a place just to visit a few weeks a year

If you are going to do that, find an inholding within a state or national park - a small track surrounded by public land.

You can find rural land pretty cheap, especially if it doesn't have utilities or access to utilities nearby.

Would definitely make things more difficult to build later on though.

Friend of mine bought 20 acres outside of Hamilton, Montana last year for $100k. No water, sewer, or electricity. It does have (dirt) road frontage and cell service. She (no pics, she's sort of masculine looking and may be a lesbian) spends most of the summer there-She has a job where she can work remotely. The plan is eventually to build a cabin but no definite timetable.

One thing to be aware of in the west is that like mineral rights, water rights can be separated from the land. You may not be able to drill a well or even collect rainwater, unless it specifically says so in the deed.

Not a bad thing to do. Do what you want on it, when you want. Maybe find something with a pond on it. My recommendation would be to not go too far out. Check an overhead map and pick something that isn't crazy far from a main road, has cell service, something near emergency services in case you get injured.

If you really want to go off the grid, you can buy land in Nevada for $10 an acre or less. Absolutely no roads, no utilities or other services, and nothing scenic to look at, but it's cheap and it can be yours.

He owns the public land as well. The government doesn't own that, we do. The government just manages it for us.
