They look nice and the mobility is awesome.

That said, I need space so no.

I like watching all the tiny house shows....but no way in hell could I live in one. I'm too claustrophobic for that.

And like others have posted....my husband and I would kill each other living so close together all the time.

800 Sq ft would be about as small as I could go and that's not really the idea of a true tiny house.

My sister lives in basically a college rental house that they bought as a starter home. It's not quite a "micro" home, but it's easily under 1000 sqft. I think the note was under 600 a month. Worked well until they had a kid. Still there, but with the second on the way it's about to bust at the seams. They are building their future house now. Little things like not really even having room for a table to eat at (got rid of the small one when the kids stuff started taking over) really seem like a pain.

I like watching the shows where a family of 4 is looking for a tiny house.

Saw one where it was a family that had a teenage daughter. You could tell she was not too thrilled about living in a tiny house with her parents and siblings at 15 years old

I am fine paying $1,500 a month to stand up in my bedroom and to have space to keep all my shite.

Pretty sure the apartment that me and my wife lived in when we first got married was like 600 sq ft

It got tight really quick. I think if we would have had a yard or an actual outdoor space it could have been more manageable though.

No way I could do it with a kid though.

Why not just buy an RV?

I meant stay in one. As in rent one for a vacation.

Not actually buy one.

My wife an I went from 2800 square feet to under 600.

Ask away.

We are MUCH happier and MUCH better off financially.

I could live in a tiny house, no problem, if I were a single man. The idea of minimizing my footprint and possessions appeals to me. I would want less to take care of, not more.

It's not about the environment or saving monthly expenses for me. It's about downsizing. I wouldn't want a yard or a pool to take care of. I wouldn't want a big house to clean. I wouldn't want all kind of "stuff" cluttering me up.

That being said... the expense of these things is just... ridiculous. I have land. I could buy a house near that land cheaper than I could build a tiny house. And like many have said... a double wide is a fair option for the price, and accomplishes pretty much the same thing.

I saw a tiny house show in San diego and all were the size of regular homes here in the south. I guess San Diego homeowners are ballers

I have lived in 400 sqft by myself and it was no problem, but from what I saw these tiny house are like 150-180 sqft, even a converted 40ft cargo container is 320 sqft.

For those suggesting mobile homes are the way to go, the average price of a new 1700 sqft double wide in 2014 was $82,000, 1400 sqft single wide was $45,000 and that does not include land.

I'd prefer to buy a 4,500 sq. ft. house and just pay cash for it.

Hell no. I live in a tiny room for 4 weeks while offshore. I'd go nuts having to come home to the same thing

I sometimes wonder if they're including the lofts when they list the square footage of some of the tiny houses featured on the shows.

I would just remodel a classic airstream RV.
