A good endocrinologist will slowly increase your synthroid until you feel better. They will do EKG’s along the way to make sure it’s not causing AFib. Even though my thyroid tested normal, we’ve more than double the amount I’m taking.
How well are you sleeping?

It is Hoshimotos disease which caused me to have chronic thyroiditis. Sorry for spelling it wrong.
I’m low in vitamin d but apparently that is a symptom of the disease. I’m definitely going to ask about the Armour stuff. I’ve done the gradual increase thing a while back and I would imagine it has changed or altered. Last time I went to the endo was probably 10-11 years ago so I have an appointment on Friday.
It has been really difficult for me to accept there is something seriously off and finally breaking down and talking about it has made me realize I need some help. Probably one of the tougher conversations I have ever had with my wife and family because I’ve held a lot of it in for years. I’m realizing that might have been the worst thing as it has gotten progressively worse.
Thanks for all the comments and advice, even the ones to lose weight.

I had my thyroid checked at my annual blood work and results were normal so I thought no need. Stuff has been getting worse and my depression started about a year ago and I pushed it aside and didn’t think it was related until it all hit a point where I was worried for myself and my family.

Hey man, this topic hits near and dear to me. I had papillary thyroid carcinoma back in 2010 which resulted in a total thyroidectomy. Currently on 250mcgs of Synthroid, levels came back last year at 50.800 Definitely go see an endocrinologist, there are other things you can do to fight depression, find yourself a hobby, read a book, just keep yourself busy.

The doctor said I had a happy thyroid so I've been trying coconut oil for it. My main problem is I have large genetics

You've come to the right place, but you're going to have to be more specific.

Synthroid is just a light version of meth. Just go get the real stuff

Anybody else have this condition and go through depression? It really blows and sucks knowing I’m legitimately crazy.
You’re not crazy. Depression is extremely common and is easily treated. Listen to your doctor, not the uncaring opinions of anonymous posters on an Internet forum.

I go at least once a year to Gary Field. You can’t go every decade. I’ve taken Synthroid for 20 years.

My GP was monitoring mine for a while and it was the same thing: my TSH was in the "normal" range, but I was feeling like shite. Went to endocrinologist and he jacked up my dose. He recently dropped me a little because of a significant weight loss.

I was also diagnosed at 15.
Hashimoto's can lead to depression but symptoms of Hashimoto's can also mimic depression. If you think you need antidepressants then absolutely try them but I would strongly suggest diet and thyroid medication changes before, or along with, your course of treatment.
Many doctors have a basic set of thyroid labs they order. Here is a list of additional tests that give give a better indication of your overall thyroid health Healing Hashimoto's. You may have to do additional research to interpret the results. The best resources I've found have been Dr. Datis Kharrazian, Isabella Wentz, Marc Ryan and Hashimoto's groups on Facebook. Lots of people need a T3 medication in addition to Synthroid or benefit from a change to Armour or Nature Throid.
There is a high correlation between Hashimoto's and Celiac Disease/gluten issues. Dairy and soy are also problematic. Do some research on this along with leaky gut. I did Whole30 (elimination diet) in August and my current diet is a mostly Paleo. My labs have consistently improved over the last 7 months and I credit my diet and supplements more than medications, since we are still trying to find the optimal medication/dose for me (currently on Armour). ETA: I forgot to mention that my antibodies are now within normal range.
Good luck!

Synthroid causing depression like symptoms is not uncommon, you need to get your thyroid levels checked and get on something more like Armour. Doing this changed my wife and father-in-laws lives.

JS. My wife has a hypoactive thyroid also. She was diagnosed years ago. She had all the symptoms. Depression, dry skin, weight loss issues amongst other things. She too saw one doctor and he wanted to put her on anti-depressants. Just because you're in the normal range, it doesn't mean it's your normal. I got into it with one doctor in LC because of that. Find another doctor. Doctor Rizk in Lafayette is good if you can get to see him. She also has to take Cytomel in conjunction with the Synthroid. Good luck.

Guys, I really can’t thank you all enough for the comments. I’m excited to talk to my doctor on Friday. I’m moved to Atl a few years ago and this will be the first endo I have seen here so I’m not sure what she will be like. If anyone around the Buford area knows any good endos, I am all for recommendations. One of the ones I was looking at had a wait until July so I tried to find the one I could get into the quickest.
