My dad worked 80 hours a week for over 20 years while I was growing up. When he got to be around 45-50 years old he started showing serious signs of being burned out and ended up having a major mid life crisis that lasted for several years. Mostly due to the lack of sleep, all of the major missed life events of his children, lack of time with his wife/best friend, etc.

He ended up struggling with addiction and had some other demons he had to deal with due to my comments above. Because of what I watched him go through I will never put myself or my family through that despite a 6 figure + paycheck. At some point even all of the money in the world isn't worth a healthy life style and your most cherished relationships.

Good luck to her and you guys as a family. Hopefully it's just temporary and she's able to get on a more normalized schedule before long because that isnt sustainable forever... nor should it be. Best wishes

Worked 14 hour days for about 8 months during the oil spill. Was my first job out of high school. We only worked 15 minutes during an hour and sat under tents for the other 45 and bull shitted. Still the easiest money I've ever made.

Every now and then. As in maybe 6 weeks out of the whole year. Company I'm with limits us to a 12hr work day with 2hr drive time. Only on rare occasions thru the year do we push that to the limits. But thats mainly been on out of town work so we can get it done and go back home

This.

I mean, i’m not working even close to 90 hrs/week.. but when you work remotely from home as i do, between phone calls and emails, you’re never truly what most people consider ‘off’.. it’s a trade off i’ll gladly take though, to avoid office politics, water-cooler BS and traffic.

I worked 96hrs over 5 days once and I vowed never again. I was on my feet for probably 80% of it. Never again.

Funny, I’ve been working the same hours. The benefits are great tho. Been getting 3 BJs a day from some ol gal that hates her family.

Yeah, I assumed she has been banging somebody but the more I look into the situation I don’t think she is. In all honesty, withthe money that she is making, I wouldn’t care if she was. There is a partner in the company that has evidently been doing the same kind of work load for 10 plus years. Of course he is on his third marriage I just was curious if it was more common that I thought because I don’t see it as sustainable.

I have in the past. Shits miserable but theres times in your life when piling up money is worth it and times it isnt. Single and 26 years old it's worth it. Hard times and hard up for money it's worth it. Family and a stable home life and able to live good for less? No way in hell.

My wife has consistently worked 75-80 for years but our kids are old enough to pull it off, we own our own business and she loves what she does. A lot has to be in place to sustain it, IMO.

2, going on 3 years- I went into business for myself.

I don’t mind the hours- but the only way it works is that I’m married to the most glorious woman on the face of this earth.

I missed her family’s Christmas this year, my family’s Christmas, worked on Christmas eve and got called out on Christmas so I wouldn’t have to call my guys out.

I've done from 13 to 16 hours per day, 7 days a week for a couple months straight before.

95% of the time consisted of me being in my truck on radios and phones running railroad job sites but it still burned my arse out quick.

Beers at the hotel bar every night with the crews didn't help. Ended up going on 5-6 hours sleep a lot of the time.

Yes. Keep up this pace for 3+ years and you get to meet cardiologists and psychiatrists and neurosurgeons.
