Got some questions

No, even though they have a doctorate in Pharmacy, they don’t generally go by “Doctor”.

If you want some oxy or Xanax, you can just ask instead of trying to figure out if I’m cool or not.

If you are trying to feel out the market ...You'll have better luck getting location-specific questions answered in the Pharmacy subreddit

Just keep going to different pharmacies
That’s what my cousin has to do when he needs his fibromyalgia medicine

This. I went from retail to hospital to law school.

Just wondering if there are any jobs in the area or if the market is oversaturated. I know the current status of retail pharmacy in general and the bleak outlook. I’ve been doing it in LR for over a decade now. But was wondering if anyone had any first hand knowledge of the level of market saturation and competitiveness of pay in the area.

I would love to go back and do something else. But I've got a few side gigs. Make too much money to justify going back.
Wish I would have not listened to relatives and did engineering

Switch to hospital man. It’s like a completely different job. I wish I had done it 10 years earlier.

Totally depends on how picky you want to be. You can most likely get on at CVS or Walgreens. They are hurting for pharmacists that want to work.
If you have a current job and you aren't in a rush to move, just start submitting applications to different places. When I seriously stared looking to get out of retail, I would go home after work and submit my CV to about 10 jobs every night.
I was trying to convince my wife for a period of time to move to Dallas. Seems like they usually have a fair amount of openings, but you may have a tough time right now with the influx of new grads that graduated in May.
Why are you trying to leave LR?

Did a while back. Just not a fan of how we handle holidays. Have about 4 that fall on my rotation this year

Full disclosure, I'm a software developer so this isn't first hand knowledge but my buddy is a pharmacist and I hang out with several of their pharmacist buddies. They work/worked in the hospital setting in the Fort Worth hospital system. Seems like the pharmacist industry is getting saturated but retail pharmacists are who seems to struggle the most. Based on what all of them say, retail is easy to find a job if you're looking for CVS/Walgreens type of place. Smaller mom and pop places are luck of the draw.
My buddy has actually moved on from the hospital and went to an animal compounding pharmacy. They do a lot of mail order compounded pharmaceuticals for non eating animals (horses, show cows/pigs etc. . . ). His problem with the hospital is that they were trying to become a teaching hospital, so they were requiring pharmacists to start publishing articles, teach students and they were pushing CEUs beyond what the license requires. Just way more work than an average pharmacist. A few of his buddies were burnt out with the hospital itself but I don't know if that's common in hospitals.
Another one of his coworkers went to another hospital that was being audited by the DEA because they had an "incident". So they hired him to take point. The DEA shows up any time they want to take inventory, review patient charts, review control compliance and anything else you can think of. The questions from the DEA are what you'd imagine. They're very vague questions and you don't know specifically what they're asking for. Not entirely sure they know what they're looking for but hoping the hospital provides some damning evidence. He has to decipher what they're asking and hope he's providing the answer to the question they're asking. It's really fascinating talking to this guy in particular.
Anyways, just adding conjecture to the thread. Out of curiosity, are you wanting to stay in retail or interested in venturing out? These guys all say that pharmacology has a high entry level salary but you cap out pretty quick.

My ex-wife is wanting to move to Dallas with her new husband and my kid. Obviously, I'm not going to let that just happen. That's a whole different issue. But that's the reason for my sudden sparked curiosity.
I'm currently in an independent retail setting. And honestly, I have it absolutely great. Work about 3.5-4 days a week. Make about $150k+/year. Been here for 17 years years now (10 as a pharmacist). I have always liked the idea of getting out and away from the town I grew up in/LR area. But I can also see the writing on the wall within the retail industry. My particular store is set up for success much more than most due to how rural we are. No chains within probably 30 minutes from here and we are far more successful than any of the other independents close to us. But at the end of the day, when insurance companies are reimbursing below cost, that's not sustainable.
I'm not opposed to the hospital setting but it is a little intimidating since I haven't been in a hospital setting since rotations 10+ years ago. I'm sure it'll all come back to me quick. But was just overall curious about the market saturation and compensation in the area. Very VERY low likelihood I would actually consider moving.
