I’m interviewing for a promotion to a position in Knoxville. What’s it like to live there? Best family neighborhoods, things to see/do/eat, etc.

TIA

Depending on your location live on the mountain side. Schools are good in different areas. You’ll love it.

Live in Farragut, it's great. Great restaurants, plenty of lakes around, low crime.

Farragut is the McMansion side of town. Lots of options outside of it though. A lot of areas have decent public schools up there. What side of town your office is on could determine best drive in for you.

Knoxville is a good place to live.

Where are you coming from?

Compared to BR, the cost of living is cheaper, there is less traffic, and there are good public schools in the city itself.

Generally the West side is going to have the best family neighborhoods. North side is older, gentrifying some and still decent. South side is up and coming. Avoid East Knoxville.

If you get out of the city, Farragut has really good schools. Karns as well from what I'm told.

West Knox/Farragut are the higher income areas.

Avoid South (meth country) or East (culcha) Knox.

North side is pretty decent.

Great city for families. Overall low crime and decent weather. Shitty sports teams though

Moved in May and love it so far.

We moved to the west side of town, not quite to Farragut and it's been great. We are in a nice area with good public schools and all the amenities we need nearby. No shortage of parks with nice walking trails and we are a quick drive downtown. Plus lots of water activites a few minutes away.

Its only been 4.5 months but I have zero regrets deciding to move here.

Lived here over 20 years in west Knoxville. Like others are saying, anywhere but east is fine. Traffic is average for a city of this size. The food culture is meh. You'll find a couple good local restaurants but mostly chain restaurants. But I enjoy living here and never had any issues.

What are your favorites? We live in west Knoxville as well but haven't done a crazy amount of food exploration.

W. Knoxville/ Farragut is great. Only about 45 mins to an hour from the Smoky's if you like the outdoors. Food is decent but not great.

Only an hour and a half from Asheville too. Another bonus

This is one of the very few areas we'd consider if we ever moved back to the South. It's been hella long time since I was there last, but always like Maryville area.

Just stay clear of Turkey Creek, the place stays packed 24/7.

Yeah, but that's where the Total Wine is... which is basically the only reason I find myself over there.

Haven't been there yet... but Total Wine has the best craft beer selection that I've found so far.

Casual Pint locations have some good stuff, but their prices are high on packaged beer.

Whole Foods is probably #2, but again high prices.

I don't go out a ton. The couple places I do love are Calhoun's and Double Dogs. Both local chain restaurants. Calhoun's is a great steak restaurant and Double Dogs has a variety of American food but I prefer their Big John burger and Tillamook hot dog. I wish we had better choices for mexican but I haven't run into any yet.

Moved from BR to Knoxville in 2005. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Great place to live.

Yeah, if it's craft beer you're after, Dixie Lee isn't the place, they're pretty much exclusively wine and spirits.
