Driving on I-70 through Kansas is one of the most miserable things you can do in life. Getting a road soda is damn near necessary. Also, frick them for charging folks to drive on the damned interstate.

I've only driven through Des Moines, so I guess I can't help you. My family is from a tiny farm in the middle of nowhere in North Iowa.

From what I hear Des Moines is a decent city, not much different from living in any other mid sized city. You're just surrounded by corn and soy beans for hundreds of miles in every direction once you leave the city and the landscape is mind numbing flat.

You ever lived anywhere that gets that cold in winter though?

Live in Wichita. I like it a lot. Enough to do to keep me busy but still small enough to not feel overwhelmingly big. I’d hate life if I lived more than 30 or so minutes away from here or Kansas City though.

Lawrence looked alright to me, too. At least the eastern bit has some hills and trees. The plains remind me of a blank canvas that some god forgot to do anything with.

Spent the first 26 years of my life in Nebraska and Iowa. Lived in close proximity to Omaha. It a nice city with plenty to do. You get all four seasons there, which adds to the many different things to do. It's a great area for kids to grow up as there is plenty of things to do and places to go with your kids. I'm not trying to get back there, but I would not hesitate for a second if that's something that life threw at me.

Wichita is plenty nice. It’s not KC but it’s a decent place to live/work.

Liberal, KS for 30 years. Made the great escape about 20 years ago. It was a great place years ago and then as the people there call it the great white flight occurred.

From what I understand all of the bigger cities out west are trash. I’ve yet to hear a good thing about dodge, liberal, garden city, or hays

What part? My family is from Cowley county and we would go visit every summer. Family had access to a ton of wide open hilly pasture. You’re right that whole stretch of the Flint Hills is beautiful.

I often interact with people from all over. I find the people I least enjoy that interaction with often come from either Kansas, Missouri, or Germany. And after those three Michigan and Ohio.

Ground is in Ottawa, Ellsworth and Wichita counties. The Flint Hills are incredible. I live in Lawrence. I've lived in Salina, Wichita and KC before.
