Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself by convincing others that the idea of a hall pass is a good thing. Let me guess, your wife just offered you one, right?

I can see a lot of child support orders in your future...

For the record, I really don't have 3 sugar babies and my wife doesn't give me a hall pass

The divorce rate for college educated married couples is extremely low, approx. 10%.
Reposting this since I don't like to let huge inaccuracies to fester.

Infidelity is another.
How is it cheating if both parties are ok with it?

That has no relevance to my question. You say monogamy isn't working well in this country, and you can't tell me how many actual monogamous couples are failing?

So if your wife came to you today and said she was going out with some dude and planned on letting him frick her tonight, you'd be cool with it?

10% ages 35-45. We'll see what happens with our generation, although about half of college educated millennials are putting off marriage until their 30s.
Anyways, didn't want to turn this thread into a big monogamy/non-monogamy thread. I do realize the majority of posters live in LA/MS/AL

Because it never just sticks to the consensual plan. It always ends with one or the other getting jealous and acting out or taking their partner for granted. It may start innocent, but it can so easily go down a dark dark path that it's best to be avoided. It can be done responsibly, in theory, but in practice it rarely works.

My parents were married to each other til death. Same with my in-laws. Wife and I have been married for over 33 years.
I know you were looking for the opposite but, figured i'd throw in some actual true stories.

What the hell else would it turn in to?

Why would I be looking for the opposite?

How many couples didn't stay together because they did "explore a little outside their marriage"?

Completely different scenario. First scenario the SO approaches you about letting you explore once in a blue moon

I thought you were asking him about monogamous couples who failed.

I think it's funny that people look down on the South because people are more likely to stay monogamous. Look at those backwards rednecks deciding not to sleep around.
If you have an agreement with your wife, more power to you. I also don't believe this is a normal thing for married couples anywhere in the country. I have a tough time believing anywhere close to 51% of the population anywhere practices open relationships. Maybe I'm just naïve.

Had a neighbor who dabbled in this with his wife. Nice up-scale family, two little boys. Fast forward a couple years and she's left him for another guy, took the boys, took everything except the house. He's a wreck, spirals downward quickly, gets into drugs, gets busted, goes to jail and now lives in a halfway house. frick that.

Different strokes for different folks. I was laughing because a thread like this would be completely different on a more northern message board. But I do find it very hard to believe most guys on here wouldn't jump at the opportunity to use a hall pass if their wife gave them one

I'm sure they wouldn't have gotten divorced if they were monogamous
