Takes a bit more than streaming. Starlink won't handle online games, especially those like MW and the like
This is simply not true. I have friends that play Call of Duty on Xbox with Starlink and it works just fine. The only issues are during very heavy rain.

Starlink is made for people living in rural areas/off the grid/traveling. You can supposedly get 250 Mbps download speeds but that seems like a huge stretch for satellite.
I'd suggest requesting to move this to the Tech Board.

Starlink handles gaming fine for us. Our son plays a lot of COD and others. We can stream on 2 TVs and he can game at the same time. This happens all the time at our house. Really bad weather will cause problems though.
Current on Speedtest app:
115 Mbps down
18 Mbps up
46 Ms ping
In heavier traffic times, numbers go down but that’s the time we’re streaming and gaming.

You folks need to get on your state legislators. I have 1GB fiber to the home here in the Mississippi sticks and it’s flawless. MS now lets the power companies run the fiber on their poles. Absolute game changer for the state.
Yep, moved to fiber from our electric company last year, fastest speeds I’ve ever had. 80 bucks a month, and don’t have to deal with Xfinity anymore

Coworker of mine lives out in the sticks. Couldn't get anything but HughesNet or Starlink. She's very happy with Starlink.

Fwiw I’ve had great luck with ATTs 5g home internet. Tried Tmobiles, too, but it was ineffective.

Yep, had it for about 18 months now. Absolute game changer.
We cut the cord on all cable and satellite tv so we just stream now. Also have 6 ring cameras that stream from it and I ran 350ft of cable to another modem for a detached gym that carries the WiFi signal to there as well. It won’t be quite as good as fiber but it’ll be better than anything else. Holds up well during storms too.

Entergy still hasn’t done shite for me with this. TVA has it all up to their customers as well.

Yes! I've had it at my camp for about a year. Works great for me....Helps me keep an eye on the property when I'm not there, as well....

Saw a fiber company out surveying power lines last week...YAY. They are adding fiber to all rural power customers from my elec Co-op within a year ot two. I will probably switch to it once it's available and if cheaper.
There was like a couple hundred billion thrown at rural internet in the infrastructure bill that passed a couple years back. Great to see the money being put to work...will be a true gamechanger for the country as people will be free to live in much more rural areas without worrying about being shutoff from the world or paying an arm and a leg for substandard connection.
I don't have StarLink but I know people who do and they've echoed the other comments....great for a rural area, not as good as a wired line.

I'm on my third dish. The first was during beta and it just died after a year. Second was a new generation one but it was apparently damaged in a 20 minute hail storm. It looked OK but died anyway. Third one has been fine for the past 9 months. They have not charged me for new dish, but one of them took a month to get up and going due to their shite lack of customer service. Meh..it beats my 5-10 Mb centurlink that we had.
You can game and stream fine. Not sure what some were talking about. Only tough games are shooters where high latency will degrade your chances. I play all kinda games and do fine.

Have had it for about a year now in rural Mississippi. I can play helldivers2 while son is playing fortnite upstairs with no issues. I had a problem with my first dish and they sent me a new one free. Had an issue recently where it would just drop connection every night at 8pm. They sent me out a new updated router and Ethernet adapter.

I had starlink until fiber was an option in my rural area. Starlink speeds can be faster than cable, depending on the plan you purchase. When I first got starlink, I was getting 100-200mb/s. Main problem with starlink is it can be affected by high winds and rain. It can definitely be faster than cable but if you’re in an area that’s full, you’re sharing the bandwidth with other users and that can affect your speed. Evening times, speeds can drop to 30-70mb/s. It was a great option for me because, at the time, cable or fiber wasn’t available. I had it for almost 2 years and if put in the same position, prior to getting it, I would do it again. The benefits far outweighed the negatives.

I’m getting tired of Cox but there aren’t many options. But Starlink is supposed to be the best satellite internet out there. Kids play Xbox so I was wondering if it could handle gameplay
I have it because I work in West Texas every 2 weeks and it works great. Playing COD, streaming, doesn't matter. It works flawless. I have the roaming so I pay $150 month. Cost me $600 for equipment. I can sell it on ebay and probably come close to getting my 600 back.

Got it this past Christmas and is awesome. I’m paying double to keep my Cox cable internet service for the house so my wife and daughter can still watch TV when I’m gone.
Do IT work so can work from anywhere with internet and plan to work from my fishing camp in Lafitte and at the deer lease camper near Ft Polk this year.
Should help me stretch my PV and work a little longer so I can buy more toys before I retire.
