My buddy's dad has been struck twice. Once on a boat, and the second time in a field. Unlucky SOB

and what makes it fake Mr Video expert

The fact that when you freeze frame the lightning strikes, all shadows for the bus remain unchanged despite the IMMENSE bright light being displayed

Now as for your spanking tendencies

do it again

So I'm a commercial plumber and I know a relatively young guy who has been struck twice on different jobs. Last time I worked with him it clouded up and he packed up and went home. Apparently it's company orders that if it looks like rain he goes home period.

Sort of. I was talking on my landline phone in the early 90's when it felt like someone hit me on the side of the head with a bat. Knocked me off my bed onto the floor. My phone was completely fried and I heard loud thunder outside almost immediately. I've heard people say it's a myth that you can be hit through the phone and I don't know if it was bad wiring or something but I do know it's no myth.

Twice I was on boats that got hit. One created st Elmo's fire on the mast for like an hour.
Once in a car that got hit.
Once a bolt hit right next to me (3 feet), threw me up againt my back porch, couldn't see for minute or so and couldn't hear for a few hours and ears rang for a couple of weeks.

Dude I know was duck hunting in the rain and got struck in the top of his head (metal bead in the top of his cap), went down hit his rubber boots and bounced back out the way it came.

F'ed him up pretty bad but he lived, I think he lost an eye among other things.

Dr said without the rubber boots he probably would have died

I wasn't struck by lightning directly. Was at a friends house that was struck while on the computer and got a slight shock but that's it.

That's all I got.

I work in weather. Taking weather observations can be a little anxiety producing especially during the summer months.

Cloud to ground lightening can strike 10 miles from a cumulonimbus tower. I have never been hit but I have seen a strike so close it burned out an electrical outlet in my uncles kitchen in Mobile, Alabama. Most lightening strikes in the US occur in Florida. Louisiana averages about 65 Thunderstorm days per year. June and July average a thunderstorm occurrence about 16 days per month ( at a given point).

That's static electricity, not a lightning strike. WTF is "indirectly struck by lightning"?

LINK

1.Direct strike – the person is part of the flash channel. Enormous quantities of energy pass through the body very quickly and this can result in internal burns and organ damage, explosions of flesh and bone, and a damaged nervous system. Depending on the flash strength and access to medical services, it may be instantaneously fatal or cause permanent injuries and impairments.

Contact injury – the person was touching an object, generally a conductor, that is electrified by the strike.

Side splash – branches form "jumping" from the primary flash channel, electrifying the person.
Blast injuries – being thrown and suffering blunt force trauma from the shock wave (if very close) and possible hearing damage from the thunder.[citation needed]

2.Indirect Ground current or "step potential" – Earth surface charges race towards the flash channel during discharge. Due to the high impedance of the ground, the current "chooses" a better conductor, often a person's legs, passing through the body. The near instantaneous rate of discharge causes a potential (difference) over distance, which may amount to several thousand volts per linear foot. This phenomenon is responsible for more injuries and deaths than the above three combined, with reports such as "hundreds of reindeer killed by a lightning storm..." being a classic example.[4]
EMPs – the discharge process produces an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) which may damage an artificial pacemaker, or otherwise affect normal biological processes.

3.Secondary or resultant Explosions
Fires
Accidents

I've come close a couple of times but have never been struck. The closest I ever came was when I was a teenager. I was on my way inside with my football when a bolt of lightning hit several hundred yards behind me. My hair stood up and my ears were ringing.
