Kept me from the NFL. I was going to be hitting home runs for the Suns. Coach came out and held me. I told him, “coach, if I ain’t got hockey, I ain’t got nuthin”

Not yet but have been fearing that injury and Achilles the most over past 30 years. I still play basketball often with 20 year olds so feels like I’ll tear one eventually.

I tore the acl and ruptured the pcl in my left knee in 2003. I rehabbed it using stretch bands with computer guidance since my insurance hadn't started. That was grueling for the first few weeks as my leg was locked at the knee. The doctor I went to after 4 months said I rehabbed it to where I didn't need surgery but had to wear the bulky brace to play pivoting sports. Now I play them without a brace. Good lick!

Damn. I am 40 and have never skied before. I was recently given the chance to go. I turned it down for this exact reason. Don’t want to tear something trying it out. Stopped playing basketball too
Fast forward 25 years from me being 40: those same decisions (for me) have paid off.

4 years ago for me as a 42 year old. Echo what people have said about those first couple weeks - taking a sh!t with that brace locked out is tough. Once they start giving you more movement things get exponentially better. I also tore my left knee ACL so I could drive - that was a bonus.
The rehab to me wasn't bad at all. Those PT's know what they are doing. the zero gravity treadmill was a great tool for me. I had one of those ice chests that pumps cold water through a sleeve that straps to your knee. Highly recommend. I used that thing daily for months.
I was back on the basketball court 9 months to the day after surgery. Wore a brace that looked like an offensive lineman brace for a year just to be safe.
Waiting till you have some "dead time" for a few weeks is a good idea.

I am sooo going to dunk on you at 4th of July BBQ this year.
Will this be in lieu of saving 16 cents YOY on your hotdog cookout?

Tore my left in 1980 in my last football game. Tore my right in mid 80’s playing church softball. They had not figured all the orthopedic surgery out quite yet. Really not having any issues till this past fall. Had a shot in left one and that calmed everything down.
Still can climb a ladder stand, lock on and climb up my tractor with no issues! Surgeon said he can fix anytime but you will know when it is time!

How was your surgery/rehab experience?
Sucked, but I would take it over my shoulder surgery any day.

Yep. Start physical therapy the day after surgery and never stop. The more you bend and use, the faster the recovery. They stole my replacement parts from my hamstring on same leg. Its been 20 years. No problem with either my ACL nor hammy. PT PT PT

Running again in six weeks, but it took a year for me to be comfortable cutting and dodging
