I did a little bit. Couldn't find much on my mom's side. Just not enough info after 2 or 3 generations back.

On my dad's side, it seems like most of them have been in the Americas since the 1600s. Found a cousin of James Madison, Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower Compact, several slaveowners, relations of the people behind the Throckmorton Plot, found my way into British royalty through John of Gaunt.

I’m sure they could have been at Vicksburg as well but so incredible to see actual pictures of my ancestors as young men going off to fight in a war.

On my dad's side, I have the stereotypical brother vs. brother Civil War story. My grandfather, however many times back, fought for the Confederacy, his brother fought for the Union. They were both at Shiloh. My rebel grandfather died in a Union prison in Little Rock in 1865.

I could have had some people fight in the Civil/Revolutionary/etc wars, but it seems like most of them were probably too young or too old at the time to do much fighting (either younger than 15 or older than 35).

My great, great, great grandfather emigrated directly from france and was a river boat captain in New Orleans in the late 1700's.

For everyone of European heritage there is a good chance you are correct. However, there is almost certainty that all are descendants of Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne (year 800). And if you were to go into any village anywhere on Earth 5000 years ago, it is highly likely that anyone you met would be your direct ancestor, unless their line ended by not having descendants.

Ever read about Ghengis Kahn, I read somewhere 1 in 200 men in the world now are direct descendant of him, he literally fricked his way across his empire. In the mongolia region its like 35% of men are a direct descendant.

Trail goes cold around the year 150.

Pretty cool.

Apparently we were not to be fricked with

King of Norway around 1390 or so.

Yes - I got into it when I worked at the public library and helped others use the resources for research

My family comes from Ireland, Great Britain, and Northern Europe - they were poor and ignorant and there’s not much about them

I did get to visit a cemetery in Ireland where some of my ancestors are buried. It was stupid, but I told them we made it and weren’t starving anymore. Which they probably already knew.

Best thing about being a descendant of Irish peasants is I was born knowing how to fight.

opened the thread looking for this exact post.
I think my dad did it, it seems like bullshite, they just say "you're related to this guy who fell off the mayflower and ended up having like 20 kids and a million grand kids and now roughly 46% of Americans are related to this guy" idk, seems like a sneaky way to get everyones DNA for various purposes.

Lastly that I'm descendant of Vincent Scivicque, the town of Port Vincent's namesake. And I was really disappointed to find out ancestors born in present day Alabama, though at the time Fort Toulouse was part of Louisiana territory.

Same here. The entire Fort Toulouse history is really interesting. In fact, the first Fontenot, Guillory, and LeFleur to come to America arrived directly from France at Mobile around 1720 as part of a militia to establish Fort Toulouse just north of present day Montgomery.

My father had a family tree put together the old fashioned way, just reaching out to extended family instead of us using ancestry or some other site. I found out I’m descended from a guy with a Wikipedia page so that’s cool.
