I could throw hard but didn't have much control and was afraid of hitting kids. Despite that, my 11-12 y.o. coach was determined to make me a pitcher.

First game of the year, I was given the starting nod.

I pitched 2 innings of no-hit ball with 6 strikeouts.

In between those 6 strikeouts I walked around 6 runs - including 2 hit batters, one of whom suffered a broken rib or two who had to be taken to the hospital.

When I left the game we were up 7-6 thanks in part to my grand slam. However, we wound up losing the game.

I never pitched again. So, I have a lifetime record of 0-0.

Good memories except for some of the jackass coaches I had.

All of our coaches wore those same shorts

I was pretty bad so I don't have many great moments on the field but tons of fun at the games and going to practice.

One of my favorite memories took a few years until I "got" it, but we didn't have regular names. We just went by the sponsor business name. It was common for teams to chant the initials of their team during the game but our team, Spring Town Drugs, got shut down quickly the first time we chanted ours. I can still remember our coach running over to the dugout at full speed waving his arms in the air. We had no idea what the problem was at the time.

Soccer one year a kid’s dad was banging another kid’s mom. Mom’s husband found out and all the shite hit the fan at practice one day after school. One guy threw a punch and missed and they rolled around in the grass for a few minutes before the coaches separated them. Both kids quit the team.

The mom being cheated on killed herself a few years later. Thats not a good memory though.

I was hit by a pitch from a friend of mine every time I faced him. We were classmates, but played on different teams for 4yrs of kid pitch. He always said he wasn't trying to hit me, just couldn't pitch against me. We played high school ball together, and in 4yrs, he didn't hit me once.

I always wanted to bunt in 9-10 year old league, because I knew I could beat anything out. Coaches wouldn't let me because they wanted me to develop a good swing at that age rather than just getting on base

Anyway, they let me the last game of the season and I bunted a home run. Actually, it was more like a single and 3 errors but there was no official scorer so :fingerbirds:.

Huh? Seeing two dads fight at the local park was all kinds of awesome.

I had a baseball coach one year that picked most of us up for practice and games in his pickup truck. We’d all ride in the back talking shite to each other. He’d mix in some errands a lot of days and just drive us all over town for what seemed like all day. I barely remember any games from that season, but love the memories of being in the back of the truck with my friends being stupid 12 year olds. Pretty sure he was throwing back Budweisers while he drove.

We always had local business sponsors too and my buddy's dad owned a convenience store in the hood so we always had to be Kelly's Meat Market

In 1981, I was 9 or 10. I got 3rd and 5th overall at Ponca City, Oklahoma and 2nd and 4th overall at World Mini Gran Prix, Saddleback California. No baseball though.

not me, but my son.
he was pitching (14 years old or so) i was coaching.

he never threw exceptionally hard, but everything had downward movement to it. So he rarely got squared up.

then one day it happened. he gave up a dinger.
no doubter as soon as it left the bat. Like cleared power lines in center field gone. I look out to mound and he’s not even looking at path of ball. just hands on hips looking down. I go out to talk to him.

says “well i just got raped in front of everybody. left that one fat and flat”.

inning or two later he’s starting to struggle, so i go out there thinking i’m about to pull him.
he points out that the dude who tattooed him in on deck and he ain’t leaving without facing him again.
“ok hot-shot go get him”.

starts him off 2-0. get a strike on the corner.
next pitch kid hits even farther than the first bomb except foul.

throws the next one into the kid’s rib cage and just walks off the field knowing he was done.

gets to dugout and says “no way i was letting that fricker get another tank off me”.

1980's

I was the shittiest player on the shittiest team and we never won a damn thing but one of the kids was Bruce Sutter's son so we all got a signed ball from the 87 braves, Dale Murphy and Bob Horner et al.

I still have two friends from that team that I talk to daily.

Jerky Chew.

Simpler times.

ETA- Nick Esasky's daughter was in my 3rd grade class and I was too young to really understand sexuality but she made me want to rub my lump against her.

Must of been first year of actual dixie youth kid pitch...must have been like '88 or so...sat out in left field picking both weeds and my butt while they either stuck out, walked, or just hit to in field.

one time they walked bases at first and second and someone hit it past the short stop and I was there to retrieve and I chased the dude from second that attempted to cross third and head home rather than throw it in and tagged him out somewhere between third and home. i was a legend that night my friends !!

One of my friend’s dad sponsored a team for his gas company and he had several stations in town. We basically had the same team from age 4 through middle school.

Once we were like 7, for every game the guys furthest out would start biking into town and picking people up on the way. We’d stop at one of the gas stations for Yoo-hoo, slim jims, and big league chew.

I guess our parents correctly figured nobody was going to mess with a pack of ten of us.

In the 10 year old state championship we were playing a team who had one of the few kids in the state who had ever gotten a hit off of me, and Im pretty sure he would hit me every time he faced me. After like a 10 pitch at bat I struck him out and our whole team were jumping up and down like we won the world series. Crazy I remember that because we ended up losing the game…
