Oh that's simple. When starting out, very few LMTs have the business background nor the financial backing to just start right away. They have to build a client base and a reputation first.
My wife had to work for multiple companies to build a sustainable client base in addition to her business. We averaged $5,000-$6,000 deficits every year for the first couple of years before finally turning a profit in year 3.
Over the course of that time, she's been certified in Zen, Swedish, Triggerpoint, Thai, Thai Yoga, Watsu (Shiatzu in water), Graston, CLT and Cranialsacral disciplines.

It's the toxins in your muscles being released back until the bloodstream and surrounding tissues.. you have to extra hydrate before and after or it will leave you feeling like you describe.

I've had two - one from an older woman, one from a big jacked (but very gay) Ukranian dude. They both hurt like hell and I didn't think they were worth the price just to feel like I'd played a game of rugby the next day. Also, it's supposed to be relaxing but I could never get over the awkwardness of some stranger rubbing all over me for an hour (I know plenty of people pay good money for that).
I've heard that these Asian places actually give the best massages and I've been tempted, but I don't think I'll have much luck explaining to Officer Neck-Kneeler that I was just here for a legit massage when they storm in and bust Mama-san and Ling Ling for running a prostitution ring.
