A lady who taught me in HS has two sons who were SEALS. Both went to Afghanistan. Both are out now. One coaches HS football, the other works in IT. I don't know them personally. The only "war story" I heard was that one of them said the thing he was proudest of was that his whole platoon came back with no casualties.
There's at least one national guard SF dude on here and I think someone on here has a son who's on a boat team.

With the amount of posters on this site I’m sure there’s some meat eaters here. Seals, rangers, green berets, the works. Honestly I’d rather know if there is/was a delta guy floating around here. That would make for some interesting stories.

I know three.
First one went into the Navy straight out of high school a little before 9/11. He's been a team guy ever since, with the exception of about a 6 month or so period when he considered getting out of the industry. When he rejoined I remember hearing that he was going to an elite team, which I later learned was DEVGRU. I've heard he was involved in the Captain Phillips rescue, but not many other details.
Last I heard about him was the he was getting an advanced degree or MBA from Duke via some tuition endowment that Seals have access to from private donors.
The second one is the little brother of the first. Went in around 2007 or so after getting a general degree from Southeastern. He got medically rolled during his first hell week, but made it the second. Think he's on a team on the east coast.
Third one went in around 2008 and got after 4 years. He's now a baw and works at Exxon.
All three were great athletes growing up, but nothing excellent.

Maybe rename your post to Navy Seals, post your book title here.”

I'm going to write a gripping memoir of my time as a water purification specialist.

Two family members who are retired SEALs. Both broke limbs during BUD/S and had to heal and then come back to start over. They do not talk about anything SEAL related until pushed hard about it. One did tell me that if you see someone traveling that you think is a SEAL (patches removed from military-wear) they're not. I understood what he meant when I attended a SEAL funeral. When it came time to pound the tridents into the coffin, men that I never would've pegged as SEALs (normal looking guys in business suits, bikers, etc) walked out of the crowd to pound their trident pins into the coffin.

I have worked in the defense industry since 2008. I know / have worked with / drink with lots of SOCOM and JSOC guys. The first rule, if someone tells you they were something and that "they can't talk about it" they are 100% full of shite. Sure, there are spies out there but they aren't these guys. And spies wouldnt tell you they were spies only to tell you they can't talk about it. One of my good friends was a A Squadron Delta Operator and Medic. He is open about it unless he doesn't know you and then just says he was "in the Army."
In general, SEAL's culture is very open and they love to write books and make movies. DELTA is much more closed mouth. Hell, for years they denied they existed at all. SF guys are a very interesting and varied group as A Teams value a variety in their personnel. You can't say there is a "type" of person who makes it in Special Operations other than that they all don't have a Quit button. That's what Selection tests for. As a Delta guy once told me when I asked about OTC, "it is t a physical thing. You can't physically make it. It's a mental thing. You have to be able to conquer the dude in the back of your mind telling you that you can't possibly keep going."

I know a few. There’s a BR neighborhood that had 4 SEALS come out of it less that 5 years apart.

I know of two. Guy I went to high school with was a class clown. We went to college and saw him occasionally as a freshman. Hadn’t seen him after. Then years later found out he was a seal. Blew my mind. I think he lives in Virginia as an officer helping with Bud training. The other is a friends cousin. His uncle was a seal and so why he decided to try. Almost didn’t make it do not being a strong swimmer, but he made it. Much respect for them both.

If you’re that curious about BUD/S, get the acronym correct.

I’m going to guess that it’s not in the northern part of the parish. That area is not really known for hard work, discipline, and patriotism.

Watching or participating in the BUDS screening qual is an enlightening experience.

He's also one of the creative consultants for Black Sails and has published several books on Caribbean piratry. Now that shite he won't shut up about. Dude is a serious pirate history junky.
Anyone who served in the Navy is already about half a step away from being a pirate anyway.

If you live near San Diego you will encounter tons of fakes claiming they are/were Navy Seals.
That's pretty bold considering Coronado is just across the bridge and tons of active duty guys go to San Diego to frick off and San Diego also has a pretty healthy group of retired SEAL's but the angle for being a fake SEAL is usually to get some strange and that almost always means bad decision making.
My little brother went to BUD/S right around 1998. He jacked up his back during Hell Week and couldn't finish. It sucked for him because it was his ultimate desire to wear a Trident and going back to the regular Navy was a real kick in the balls for him.
I also train jits and go out to SoCal and roll whenever I can. I have rolled at Jocko's school in San Diego and rolled with several former SEAL's up at Kron's school in LA and our mothership in Torrance. Most guys other than Jocko who is a beast really look like average dudes.

All I’ll say is that I was in very great shape, feel like I was a mentally tough person and couldn’t complete SWCC which was led by seals. It’s a world most will never know exists.

I know two St. Paul School of Covington alumni who spent time in the teams
