damn if Skidmarks told you that much I would attempt to do it myself

Bullfrog, how long did it take you.. Are you very mechanical? Trying to talk my self into doing it.. Did you follow that video?

Gotcha.
Do you think it's ok to drive that distance or should I hold off? It wasn't overheating that I noticed.. Temp Guage stayed where it normally was and wasn't doing anything different while driving..

About 20-25 minutes once I had all my crap together.
Took longer looking for something to catch the antifreeze in.
Oh yeah. I had to let the car cool down. That took a while. Didn't want to get scalded on hot fluid.
Temp gauge PROBABLY stayed normal because the thermostat is broken in the open position.

If it's not running hot then I don't understand what the problem is
Posted on 11/29/14 at 2:52 pm to bencoleman
On board computer sensing fluid staying too cold for too long.
The thermostat stays closed until the fluid heats up to allow the engine to warm up faster and become more efficient. Then it opens to begins to allow the rest of the fluid to circulate and keep the engine from overheating.

You can run it so low of coolant that the temp gauge doesn't work properly. I don't think that is the case here.

Thank you,
If the car isn't running hot then the thermostat is working properly it sounds to me like the sensor is bad

Could also need a coolant flush and fill. If fluid is over 5 years old 100k miles, it gets very corrosive to an engine and can eat out the hose fittings or water pump.
Cheap protection to change the fluid.

If it is stuck in the open position the heater won't work for shite
Posted on 11/29/14 at 3:08 pm to bencoleman
Correct.
Until you run it 2000+ RPM's fir a while to get the temp up.
On a cold night, that still may not help.

Or that engine sensor could mean a head gasket going
Posted on 11/29/14 at 3:36 pm to prplhze2000
I can't imagine that it would be a head gasket unless they ran it super hot and if that's the case they can forget it the head will be cracked

Hey, Ben. Sorry I'm late to the thread. Did you still need the blue book value for that Ford you asked about?

No but thank you for remembering

quote:My truck threw an o2 code last night. I scanned it with my programmer (which has the same OBD2 software as the scanners at Autozone), and it was P0135. Now that number is a generic number......same number will show for almost all cars when that o2 sensor goes bad.
You guys are overstating what Autozone will do. They will only tell you the code number and the difference between some of the o2 sensor codes. Knowing the code# is useless unless you know what it actually means, and there are no manuals that will tell you what is actually wrong. There are many manuals that will tell you useless info. Autozone workers have always been wrong when telling me o2 sensor stuff. They don't understand the difference between upstream and downstream o2 sensors, much less the important stuff
Programmer (same software as Autozone) said it was "Bank 1 Sensor 1 Heater Circuit Malfunction". Bank 1 shows what side of the engine is and sensor 1 tells me that it is the first sensor.
I'm not sure how much more specific you want to get with that. If you don't trust them, look up the number on your phone while you're standing inside Autozone, but they will print out exactly what I just said on a receipt for you if you'd like. You're understating what they do

Well got it done today.. That was a pain in the butt... For everyone saint how easy it is, have you changed one in a 2005 ford focus before?? Honestly? I got a guy to come help me and he was talking about how easy it was to do it until he got here and started seeing what had to be done to get to the thermostat.. Took about 4 hours.. Light went off.. Gonna drive some in the morning to make sure all is good and see if I need to add some more fluid. Much better than paying the 500..but would gladly have paid bencoleman the 100..i have a feeling he would have backed out half way through..lol
