For someone giving a price to run a diagnostic test?
Posted on 11/29/14 at 12:27 pm to CENLALSUFAN
Think about it. It's not that far and I will do it right now. Offer me more and I might come to you

Quoted me on the thermostat with tax and installation was over 500..
For that price the thermostat had better give you a blowjob every time you get in the car.

Googled videos already one looked really hard and had to take a bunch of stuff off and one you had to have some cool looking tools that I don't have.. And plus I'm not the mechanical type..
Called skid marks and they charge 1hr labor for diagnostics which is 107 I believe he said.. He said it would pin point if it was the thermostat or an ect (engine control temperature) sensor..

Dude I'd cry for you if you paid that much. It's a $30 part every day.
I've changed them on a variety of Ford vehicles and never needed any special tools. Usually a socket and a pair of channel lock pliers to remove the radiator hose.
Hell I changed one on my wife's VW bug and there is no way it can be more difficult than that.

How long do you think it'll take you to do it.. I don't think there is any way for me to get it to you in enough time now.. Gotta be in Donaldsonville for 6 tonight..

quote:You guys are overstating what Autozone will do. They will only tell you the code number and the difference between some of the o2 sensor codes. Knowing the code# is useless unless you know what it actually means, and there are no manuals that will tell you what is actually wrong. There are many manuals that will tell you useless info. Autozone workers have always been wrong when telling me o2 sensor stuff. They don't understand the difference between upstream and downstream o2 sensors, much less the important stuff
It's free at Autozone, and will usually give you a few possibilities of what can be wrong.
They will tell you not changing one of them will cause more harm, but that is absolutely wrong. The downstream o2 sensor is also the most useless thing on a car ever. A bad o2 sensor will only cause your vehicle to burn extra fuel, nothing else.

Changing a thermostat is one of the easiest things to do on a car.
Just don't do it while the engine is hot.

Yeah, once you have the code it makes it a lot easier to pinpoint the problem.
I have never had an O2 code thrown so maybe it is more difficult, but usually a code and internet search will nail down common problems/solutions with your vehicle.

The code they gave was p0128. Gave 3 possible causes
1.check coolant level
2.thermostat defective
3.ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor defective.

I don't know, that video looked difficult to me.. 2005 ford focus 2.0...
Posted on 11/29/14 at 1:52 pm to arcalades
It'll give you a code with the possibilities. I'm not overstating anything.
Don't get mad at me because you can't figure out o2 codes

P0128 was my code yesterday.
The deluxe thermostat was $13.99
If that didn't work, the sensor is $25.99 and it just scews in like a bolt.
New thermostat worked. Complete fix.
Take it to Ben and call it a day.
