In all seriousness, a good friend of mine is a Mason (not very active with them now).
He’s probably the most dependable person I know. When not joking around you can depend on him to tell you the truth. Will not repeat anything he’s told in confidence. Will readily admit a mistake on the rare occasion he makes one.

Do you have to take a paddling to get in?

I think that’s something we can all aspire to be like

That is the only informed comment I have read thus far.

Because they don't know the true nature of their organization.

Do you have to learn masonry? Does a Master have to build an outdoor fireplace or something?
Posted on 1/5/18 at 5:31 pm to RougeDawg
You gotta build a bird house from my understanding.

That is not true.
I am not a mason but know some about them as my grandfather and probably 10 generations before him were Masons.
Masons do not care if you are Catholic but the Catholic Church does not want their members to be Masons.
The Masons were not the founders of the KKK. There were no doubt kluckers that were Masons but the Masons are all over the USA and the world as far as that goes.
The Masons were an important part of American society from the beginning and even in the sixties and seventies most respectable men in some towns were Masons (Catholics being the exception.) 14 US Presidents were Masons.
They do not hide their membership. If one was on the forum he wouldn't mind admitting he is a Mason.
Here is link to facts about the Masons LINK

Later when I have time I plan on joining the masons.
You have to be a Mason before you can be a Shriner.
I’m a big fan of Shriners Hospitals and would like to one day help support them.

When I was a teenager in the seventies one time my father needed some cash on Sunday after I had lost my wallet and had to drive about 300 miles for a trip. My father was going to give me the cash for the trip after I lost my wallet.
Even though my father was not an active Mason he had joined as a young man and attended a lodge in another state. When we moved he did not join the local lodge. He knew the ways of Masons.
This was before ATM machines. We went to house of a guy who operated a local lawnmower shop who my Dad knew would have his Saturday deposit still at home. He shook his hand--undoubtedly the secret handshake--and the guy spotted him $250 until Dad could get to the bank on Monday. I ask him why the guy would loan him the money and he said because he was a Mason. They look out for each other.

quote:I'm a freemason.
but i have no clue what is dicussed or idealized in meetings.
It's a fraternal organization.
Discussion is like any other business meeting.
Who is sick, who died, who needs assistance, what kind of fund raisers are coming up, what are going to have for dinner at the next meeting.
No big secrets. Only a complex collection of ways for one mason to identify another.
If a mason lives up to the ideals of masonry he will be a person that all other good people will like.

Good plan. They are good people.

So how does one join?
Email a chapter/Office? I have one 5 minutes from me.

black people who live in Nashville are Freemasons.
I've always assumed theirs is very much like the one I'm in. They are a very tight knit group.
In more recent years the two have joined in several states. We haven't had any black men apply (they didn't know I'm mixed breed) but a man would not be turned down because of his skin color.

You would look much wiser if you researched a little before writing down stupid things for others to read.
