Nearly all of the military and politicsl backers of the Americsn Revolution were FreeMasons. Most of the signers of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were free masons. George Washongton and most of his officers in the Continental Army were Freemasons. The architect who designed Washington D.C. was a Mason. Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Hamilton, Madison, etc were all Masons.

I was in a secret society in college called the Crips. the upperclassmen hazed us pretty well when we joined. And I'll never forget the pranks we used to pull on people.

To clear up some rumors.
No record of Thomas Jefferson being a Mason has been confirmed. Washington, many of his command staff, Franklin, I think 14 signers, Paul Revere, and many, many other patriots were. In fact, a few patriots were probably anti-Masonic.
Unlike Woodmen of the World and other fraternals, it is not a "beneficial" organization that pays death benefits to members, etc.
Meetings normally consist of going over old business, new business, projects for the good of those in need, some sort of devotion, helping others.
No meeting begins or ends without prayer nor is politics or world financial matters discussed. It's not all the cloak and dagger stuff non-masons or those opposed declare it to be.
To be a member one must apply by petition, be investigated, approved, and complete each degree successfully.
As for secrecy, very little to do with a Masonic Lodge is secret in today's times. I'm sure back in the day when they were planning the Revolution, a lot of secrecy was involved.
As for fraternalism, there are many instances were a battle was ceased where Masons from either side could meet on the battle field and bury their dead.
There are hundreds of "google" sites that will tell you about Freemasonry; some are just, some are total B. S.
Bet the farm though that Freemasony is based on belief in a Supreme Being, charity, and doing what's right.

A mason will come to your house and interview you, then they decide if you can join.
As long as you're white you're good to go.

Roger..
So the masons designed it, the jews paid for it, the blacks actually built it with their free labor, and the Irish-Italians sat around drinking?
How'd anything get done without the Mexicans?

Do you like the taste of blood? Namely, human blood?
