Hubby is in wholesale parts. When we bought our Subaru back in May, they didn’t come off the price at all. The salesman admitted that they get a salary and not a commission.
Subaru does a better job of setting a meaningful MSRP than just about everyone else.

Any Car Salesman Out There? by tgrbaitn08
Do you feel pressure to make sales and meet your quotas at the end of months and/quarters?
Do you work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day or do you pretty much just work when you want?
Do you have a car allowance or a per diem? Does your dealership pay for your wardrobe?
I knew a guy that sold cars for a while and he worked on a deal for like two weeks and ended up selling the car and got a commission check for $100.

His friend Mr. Tony stole it for him. His other friend Mr. Al said that password-stealing is a federal crime. Oweo is torn between these two points of view and may need to start a thread about it.

Are the car salesman making $150k plus 1099? I’ve never met a car salesman that lived like someone that made $150k comfortably, more like $40k millionaires.

You think they are being shady, but if anyone is shady it will be the F&I manager on the warranty end. My observations at car dealerships is that the customer is more problematic than the salesman or the dealership.
You think your trade is worth 12K the dealer tells you 10. You try to bargain down to cut the dealer of any profit, because you,"WILL NOT BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF" then you don't realize that you are upside down on your financing, because you were so effective that you put down nothing.
I find that "shady" tends to run both ways.

I was overall happy with my buying experience at Subaru. The only thing we haggled over was my trade in value.

Car salesmen always tell me their sales manager is going to get mad at them if they tell him what I am offering for a car.

I bought my truck from texas auto direct. Found exactly what I was looking for on the website, test drove one night after work, picked up the truck the next afternoon after all the paperwork was done online.

frick all that, I'll buy every used car from texas auto from now on.
I've heard a dozen variations of this story over the last 2 years. No way I'll even consider doing anything else, other than a little research on the car and the actual value. Once I decide on a vehicle and a acceptable range, straight TX Auto Direct and doing the deal.
I'm not real picky but I want a car that I'll pay off and drive for 200K. Pay for a quality product, and drive it until I wreck it or the repairs cost more than is reasonable vs. the value.
Accord, Camry, Elantra, something along those lines. Blue would be nice. Leather pretty much a requirement. The rest will be details.

Somebody posted a “used condom thread” last week.
My question is do they let you “test drive” one?
How many miles on a “certified used condom”?

Is $150,000 as 1099 really that bad? Is paying 2x FICO tax and insurance As 1099 really equivalent to a $40,000-$50,000 year salary with benefits as W2? Honestly curious.

used car sales guys don't get to adjust any pricing. That comes from the used car manager.
Average used car profit is $4-8k. You're getting fricked at finance and warranty sales.
JUST SAY NO.
