Got me on this a few years ago. Miserable experience. Two visit process as they only numb one side of your mouth at a time. Then they jam this instrument down between the tooth and gum and scrape something off. They quoted me a cost for the service and I paid that amount after the first visit. After they second visit (other side) they told me I owe the same amount again. I raised a good bit of hell about that. When you quote a cost, is is standard practice to quote a fraction of it? Only thing worse than dentists is dental insurance.

frick those fake doctors!

This is your problem, which shocks me since you seem to be a huge critic of everything on this board.

My sister fell for this shite. She moved and needed a new dentist. He has great reviews online and seems respected. They told her she needed a deep clean, which would take 2 visits(1 per side). She did it. I think insurance paid most of it. She now goes every 3 months for "perio-maintanence". The hygenist told her once you have gum disease, you always have gum disease and the cleanings need to be every 3 months to keep it at bay.

I told her this is some BS, but she's afraid to tell the hygienist that.

Yes, she brushes at least twice a day with a Sonicare, flosses everyday etc. She did go a few years after college without visiting a dentist though and I think she told the hygenist this and they jumped on gum disease.

On all 10 of them.

I wasn't saying it wasn't a rip off, I was just saying what they were supposed to be looking for on the machine. I think you did the right thing by declining the service.

There is no code for "deep cleaning". That's clue number one.

If they don't do a periodontal chart (checking the depth of the pockets using a tool) then they are scamming you. If they try to do all four quadrants in one day, there's a good chance they are scamming you.

If you go to the dentist regularly, they are probably scamming you. If you just got new dental insurance some will scam you. If you recently changed dentists some will scam you.

Ask them to perform a pre-determination of benefits prior to the service and that will help eliminate some of the scammers.

Then don't fuss about the "malarkey". You went somewhere for convenience that is clearly a "big" dentist office.

No idea what that is. I went to the dentist last week and had a normal cleaning.

I believe I have actually lost teeth due to the deep cleaning/scaling that was done. Not long after I developed infections and had to lose them. I think it's a crock!!!

So you still got a mouth full of filth? Way to show that dental practice with your gum disease.

Why go to the dentist if your not going to listen to thier professional opinion?

I had gone a few years between dental visits and knew I needed some work. Ended up in the chair and the hygienist and dentist both suggested periodontal scaling and debridement.

I looked it up after I left the free initial exam and saw it was legit, figured it'd been a few years so I went for it. I got a cavity filled and a chipped tooth resurfaced, and from there along with the debridement I've been cavity and pain free dental-wise.

I brush daily and I floss probably every other. I go in every six months and I get a normal cleaning and a fluoride treatment. The last time was earlier this month. I got caramel flavored and that sh!t was the t!ts brah.

My hygienist has only ever upsold me on the fluoride treatment (and I get it because my city of domicile does not fluoridate the water supply and I want my chiclets to stay in my piehole as long as possible) and one weird mouthrinse and X-Ray for Oral Cancer.

I did that because I don't wanna be that guy that loses half of his jaw or half of his tongue to something.

I love where I'm at. They're good people and they show me every single X-Ray and talk thoroughly about every single plan of treatment or explanation behind why they do something.

I also signed up for their, "Forever White," program. Paid $99 and as long as I make my every 6 month cleanings, I get free molds and free whitening gel for life as much as I want.

Sh!t has paid for itself many times over.

Sounds like y'all need to find honest dentists...

yeah I did that and then found out my insurance didn't cover it.

Then my dentist makes you put 30% down on procedures even before you get them done. I find that super odd.
