Hopefully they have their seed storage or any other organic materials in a separate location. Supposedly the distribution facility has potentially 2x the amount on site as in the West, TX explosion.

All current and future ammonium nitrate explosions must use Beirut as a reference.

That is a much more populated area than West, Texas too. Yikes.

Less than a mile from Wake Forest Law School.

So there's about 500 tons of ammonium nitrate on site, another 100 tons in rail cars next to the fire.

Firefighters have left the area after trying to control it.

600 tons of ammonium nitrate is likely to go up here. West, TX was about 240 tons. So it could be more than double the size of the West, TX explosion.

That would basically level everything within a 1/4 mile radius, and damage windows and doors for about a mile away.

This now has my attention. What twitter feeds can I read about it?

Sorry for the bad quality image. Wake Forest University is damn close to this. Some parts of campus are less than a mile, and there are entire apartment complexes within the possible blast zone.

I didn’t realize there was a fertilizer site that large that close to wake.

And Beirut was 2750 tons.

Do we even use ammonium nitrate for anything besides turbo boosters in street cars? It blows my mind that we get all this risk and death for some Fast & Fury wannabes to do donuts at 3 am.

Question, if ever in a situation where someone lived nearby and was asked to evacuate.... After moving the family out, I'm assuming some baws would want to stay home and protect against potential looters. What type material would be best to improvise a breathing filter from (assuming fumes were possible)? Do any of you preppers keep a respirator/gas mask on hand?

Ammonium nitrate is widely used in fertilizer. I don't know of any automotive application.

I would be more worried about the shock wave and falling debris than fumes assuming a blast happens.

Not sure if serious or thinking of nitrous boost, which is nitrous oxide.

I understand that, but what if the biggest threat is just a fire creating toxic fumes?

If you are less than a mile away, the fumes will be the least of your worries.
