With the cost of alcohol, I don't know how most people afford to drink.

I simply just say I don’t drink or that I’m not drinking tonight. If they have an issue with that they can get f’ed. I’m 47. I don’t need anyone’s approval and could care less who thinks I look cool or not. That mindset works best for me than feeling the need to make up random excuses for acceptance.

Why would any man go completely sober? What's wrong with drinking 1 or 2 times during the week?

I had a choice either quit or die. Plus I could not stop at just two. I was very bad. Best health choice I’ve ever made.

That’s simply not an option for some of us. I would be right back to 10-16 drinks every, and I mean every day of the year.

For most only drinking a couple drinks does nothing for them but make them drowsy and tired the rest of the day. The taste sucks as well so why even bother?

I guess in my younger drinking stage, if I wasn’t going to kill 6-12 beers, I’d rather just not even drink. Main reason I just don’t drink now. I’d much rather have a soda or Gatorade to wuench the thirst if that’s what I’m going for.

Setting health/fitness goals is a good way to fill that time and drag yourself out of the habit of drinking. Although I’m not 100% on the wagon, when I am not drinking, it’s easy for me to tell people, “it’s not in my training plan” or “I have a big work event coming up I need to be clear-headed for.” Then explain about a race or something else I’m preparing for. Most people are like, “Cool.”

Absolutely, I find it commendable and when someone tells me they don't drink I always say good for you...and I mean it genuinely.

I love beer and I'm never going to stop. I love to go out with friends and have a couple and I love to sit on the back porch after a run and have a beer with my wife. I'm never going to stop - I enjoy it and always will, with no shame or regret.

But mad respect to those who choose the sober life.

Friend of mine’s wife was literally drinking herself to death. Multiple health issues, some potentially terminal. She’s been sober over 9 years now. It wasn’t only the best move she could make, it was the only one.

No booze, no blow since then.
I still enjoy the herb/fungus, aka “Cali Sober” to quote the kids.
Quitting drinking (and the toot) was the best decision i could have ever made for my life, and the lives of those that depend on me and/or give a shite about my well being. No doubt. Alcohol was a big time dissociative crutch.

It’s not random excuses for acceptance when it’s the truth.
